Reports: Remove merge cells when exporting to excel
Please don't merge any cells in the Excel export of reports 🙂
Hey community! Thanks to everyone who added their votes and comments to this idea, and took the time to respond to our survey earlier in the year.
Based on this community's feedback, we've gone ahead and implemented Option A: Unmerge all cells today.Â
Now when you export to an excel file, you'll find that there are no merged cells.
Heads up! As a result of this change, if your business has an especially long legal name (more than 60 characters), you may need to manually merge and wrap cells for better printability 🖨️Â

I don't know a single excel user who uses merged cells as it stuffs up a lot of functionality. Please get rid of the merged cells and text wrapping when exporting to excel.

Its a Royal pain having to unmerge cells when exporting to Excel - it's like being with Sage (and Xero, that is meant to be an insult!)

Could Xero not make the exports into excel more attractive- they are an embarrassment- the fonts are all mixed, it merges cells making them need formatting and are just not useful at all. The new layout reports just launched by Xero are absolutely awful for export- the old formats were far better and at least looked tidy. This can't be that harder fix?

Could not agree more! Many excel functions are limited/stopped by merge cells, so it requires unmerging any merged cells before being able to use any of these.

There is a fault when you export the new profit and loss / balance sheet / cash summary reports to excel. You can no longer sort the months into the right sequence easily (earliest month first rather than how xero does which is latest month first) as the sub headings are merged across all cells which was not the case in the old version. You The only solution offered is to create my won layouts which means need to create 33 layouts instead of getting the new reports to export the same way the old reports export which does not merge subheadings across the report
