Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand that having more context around Tracking Categories could help teams apply them consistently, especially when managing more complex reporting setups.
The suggestion is to add a description or notes field to Tracking Categories, giving teams a place to record how each category should be used.
For now, some teams use internal guides or shared documents to keep these details available. We’ll continue tracking this idea here, where other users can add their feedback and examples to help shape future improvements.

We were halfway through a migration to Xero from MYOB but realised that you cant give a description to a tracking category.
We have now paused to potentially find a solution to this or stay with MYOB.
We have considered working around with a 30 character tracking cateory eg: 'code' - 'description'
but this creates problems with integration to our ERP systems.
Some of our subsideries also have to manually enter these codes, and to ask them to use 30 characters is extensive.
Working in tech, its pretty easy to add a description field on a table, and from a finance perspective it is imperative to have this visible as we do not want our staff to have a two column mapping print out pinned to their workstations for reference...
