Hi everyone, thanks for your continued engagement and support for the idea of making tracking categories mandatory in Xero. We really appreciate you sharing your insights on the benefits that adding this feature would bring to your financial reporting and month-end processes.
Right now, you could use find and recode to assign a tracking option to any transaction lines that are currently unassigned.
Regarding the future of this idea, we've carefully reviewed all your feedback and the critical need you've expressed for this feature. While we understand the value and time-saving potential this improvement would bring, we want to be transparent that making tracking categories mandatory across all relevant transactions isn't on our roadmap for development. If our position of this changes in time, we'll share an update for everyone, here.

When Xero started out they genuinely listened to customer feedback - I recall talking with Rod Drury in about 2011 discussing the need for payroll in Xero, following which they bought Paycycle (not personally claiming the credit for this, mine was just one of many voices) and integrated it into the app. Many other examples of development driven by (or at least informed by) user needs.
Over the past few years, they have (IMHO) become less and less responsive to actual client needs, spending developer time on features that add no value to anyone, whilst ignoring feature requests that would deliver benefit. I am holding out almost nil hope of this feature actually getting actioned! :-(
Sadly I am not sure this is going to get any attention. Submitted 2 years ago, 141 votes in support no downside to anyone of implementing it and a massive upside to those that need it. Response from Xero? Crickets. But the Unicorn Easter Egg gets actioned within days. To be clear, I also voted in favour of the latter, but seriously Xero get your priorities right.
