   Thanks to everyone that’s shared interest in being able to write-off invoices or bills as a bad debt. We understand how a direct feature would enhance your use of Xero and flows when trading.

   As shared in our last update, while not a one-click solution we appreciate the needs expressed for being able to record bad debts right now, and have a Xero Central article that provides a way of currently accommodating this in Xero today.

   There are also other options that have been shared by members in this conversation that some may want to explore.

   We want to be open that specific bad debts functionality isn’t planned for invoices or bills at this time, but we understand the needs here and it’ll continue to remain high on our team’s radar when reviewing and prioritising their roadmap.

   With differing product teams and needs for this functionality within invoices and bills we’re going to separate the idea for each feature. I’ve created one for managing bad debts in bills across here and highly encourage anyone from this thread to vote for if you’d like to see this developed to handle supplier engagements.

   We will gladly share if there is any development for bad debts in either of these features.

   It's currently not easy to add nondeductible expenses in Xero. Those are expenses that will not reduce the net income, and will not reduce any tax liability. An example is a political contribution, or a donation to a person or an organization that is not officially recognized as a charitable organization (i.e. no tax receipt). And they are not expenses made to earn more revenue. Xero could add a new Account Type in the chart of accounts, something like "Non-deductible Expense", and when a transaction is recorded against this type of expense, all the underlaying accounting transactions would happen automatically behind the scenes. Like when we add a bill or an invoice... all related transactions are done by Xero. Having an account like that in the chart of accounts, that would make it very easy for all Xero users to record nondeductible expenses. Currently, we need to write manual operations and to involve an accountant to know how do manage these transactions. This new account type would be a great improvement to make Xero more accessible to everyone.
