Hi everyone, we've got a bit of an update we'd like to share with you all here.
Some of you may have already seen, following the closure of CATO, we’re launching a new simple accounts production & tax solution for small businesses. This'll be available as a paid annual add-on from August 2026.
With this solution you’ll be able to file your micro company accounts and corporation tax returns directly to HMRC from inside Xero, using data from your organisation in one simple flow.
The feature doesn’t replace the more powerful, flexible tools you use with your accountant or bookkeeper. If your advisor files on your behalf, nothing changes.
This solution is for small business owners handling their own corporation tax, this means less time wrestling with separate tools and a simpler, more streamlined way to stay compliant.
If your tax needs get more complicated or you need more support,…

I am a certified accountant working in industry who prepares their own accounts. I love Xero, but to have to use different software to prepare the accounts is not efficient.
Other software has the ability to file accounts and tax returns without using an accountant, why not Xero.

I find it difficult to understand how Xero can provide the ability to file for MTD for IT but not for Limited companies to meet their statutory filing requirements.
My husband has a Limited company and I have a job elsewhere, but I am a qualified accountant, I have previously filed the accounts using HMRC Gateway and been ok with this, but HMRC now has a notification saying that this will not be available from 31 March 2026.
I really like how Xero works for record keeping, reports & payments, etc, but it should be more than this for a Limited company, many of which employ qualified accountants. I find it difficult to understand why it does not have the ability to file statutory accounts, ixbrl and a corporation tax return to the company paying for the software. As an up to date qualified accountant I cannot see why I would be expected by my software provider to engage and pay for a Xero Partner to do this for when when they are not asking MTD income tax cases to do the same. I thought that from going to Xerocon in the past, Xero tax came about via an acquisition of a company that provided the software for Limited companies to file their statutory accounts and corporation tax return but now Xero have acquired that company the facility is only open to Xero Partners.
If legislation does not require that the accounts and corporation tax are submitted by a practicing accountant (just like IT MTD), why is this a requirement for companies. I have previously used the HMRC facility to file, but with this being no longer available from 31 March 2026 I am going to have to look for software that will file the accounts and CT600, or look at alternative software but I really like Xero for every other aspect .
