Thanks for your interest and sharing your needs in being able to add a Contact to Manual journals you post in Xero. We know this is important for customers and enabling this capability is on our product team's roadmap.
Right now, they're currently focused on other important items of work, however as soon as we're able to dedicate resource to this I'll be back with a further update to share progress with everyone, here.

Any updates on this? Without the ability to add contacts to Manual Journals, we can not track so many things. The comments below have the most frequent use cases and there are more missed.
E.g. We cant track the prepayment balance remaining for a specific vendor (paid annually in advance, amortize monthly via MJs).An error occurred while saving the comment Cenk Tukel commented
Use case:
Deferred revenue or prepaid expenses. When we pay for a service annually in advance, we book it to prepaid expenses (B/S assets), then create a monthly repeating manual journal to expense it from the prepaids.But, at the end of the month or year, we can not see the prepaids balances by contact because we can not enter contact field in the manual journals (same applies to deferred revenue).
We request the ability to add contact to manual journals and this be an optional entry for those who prefer not use that field.

This feature is so very critical... We don't understand why it is not a priority.
