I agree with all of the above. This seems like a basic function which should be a part of any auto-reconciliation within accounting software. The bank rules are very generalised and do not specifically address the need to have a blanket rule applied to find each different description which customers use. Adding to that, if Xero could add a function which shows any matching invoice numbers to be shown on the bank feed - no matter what the balance is or whether it matches exactly. We all know how to allocate part payments to invoices, however having that invoice come up initially would allow us to split the payment. Far quicker processing - which is one of the selling points for all accounting software.
