I find it extraordinary that this still isn't implemented. By far the most commonly used date range used by our organisation is 'Year to end of last month'. This particularly applies to most of our custom P&L and BvA reports. So much simpler if we didn't have to tweak the date range every time we run the reports. It would only mean adding one more option to the date range drop down (potentially also 'Quarter to last month', though my guess is that'd be far less commonly used).
PS It looks like this thread hasn't been reviewed by the Xero Community team, or at least there's no response yet. Maybe it needs more votes to come into view, so if you've arrived here, please leave a comment and flag the issue as Important or Critical. I'd be prepared to bet that if 'Year to last month' date range was implemented it would be used more than most of the other existing date range options combined.
