Hi Cody, thanks for sharing such detailed feedback on progressive billing for fixed-price tasks. It’s really helpful to hear how this could support projects that run across multiple stages.
We’ve reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining support, so it’s now open for votes and comments from the wider community. If others have similar experiences with fixed-price project billing, we’d love for them to add their voice — it helps show how broad the need is and gives the product team clearer context.
Thanks again for raising this, and we’ll keep you posted on any progress.

Definitly need an option for non-employees to be added to Xero Projects.
In our case, we sub-contract project work to consultants who then provide us with invoices against their time.
As Xero Projects will currently only accept users who are employees, our current option is either set up Subcontractors as employees (even though we don't pay them as part of our payroll and don't pay leave, their taxes or super.
or
We set up a 'fake' employee
or
We add these times against an existing employee (in Xero Projects)- but then need to edit the payroll timesheets because we don't actually want to pay the employee for the contractor(s) time
We need to be able to add the contractors time into Xero Projects so that we can invoice the work to the client properly.

We do a lot of contract work at hourly rates and would like to prevent 'staff member A' from being able to see the hours/tasks logged by 'staff member B'
Currently we can make projects Private and assign certain staff to them but should also be able to assign certain tasks so that they can't see what other staff are logging. Avoids privacy risk for both our clients and staff members.
At the moment there is also the risk that staff could assign hours to another staff member by accident (we always check, but this isn't time efficient).
At the very least make another user option where staff can ONLY access and see their own project/tasks/times and not anyone else's project information.

For me this goes hand in hand with this thread:
https://productideas.xero.com/forums/967124/suggestions/50639939We need non-employees/contractors to have the ability to access Xero Projects without being put through payroll (because we don't pay them that way)
Alternatively we need to be able to bulk upload time entries from subbies so that we don't need to manually load a month's worth (or more)
of time entriesBoth would be ideal

All of the above - but also applies to purchase orders. In the work we do, our purchase order might be for a fixed price over a span of 6-24 months. Each time we invoice (monthly), Xero tries to apply the entire PO against that invoice. The ability to draw down against a PO in the same way as Cody and Tom have discussed for Projects would save us a lot in admin time and reduce errors
