Reading through the long list of comments on this issue, and the many, many subsequent pages of similar comments, going back years, I'm not sure I believe it that Xero is developing based on its users wishes, and that this may all just be lip service. Instead, rolling out useless (and environmentally irresponsible) AI 'developments' to please the big corporations and to maintain the appearance of being 'with' the times. Very disappointing to see all this from what I was given to believe was a more independently-minded software developer. This functionality is totally up and running in QuickBooks Online, and for me and my clients, it will necessitate a conversion if this doesn't get fixed in the very near future. What a waste of my time!
