Hi Cody, thanks for sharing such detailed feedback on progressive billing for fixed-price tasks. It’s really helpful to hear how this could support projects that run across multiple stages.
We’ve reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining support, so it’s now open for votes and comments from the wider community. If others have similar experiences with fixed-price project billing, we’d love for them to add their voice — it helps show how broad the need is and gives the product team clearer context.
Thanks again for raising this, and we’ll keep you posted on any progress.

Agree with this functionality and way of thinking 100% We just moved from Harvest, and the idea there is that tasks can be budgeted (close to Xero's idea of a fixed cost) but they also have an hourly rate.
As above said, if I have budgeted/estimate 100 hours at $100, I don't want a fixed cost immediately attached. I want to "draw down" from the budget.
Thank you for considering this! It'll be great.
For now, I am leaving things under Hourly Rate so that I can track against the estimate, but I'm completely ignoring any invoicing hours calculated by Xero.

Exactly as the comment says above: often day to day requires moving between projects: starting a new timer, pausing an existing one, then going back and forth.
We have just said goodbye to Harvest (previously paying $AUD30) now upgrading to Xero Ultimate (+ $AUD36 from the previous plan). I think a lot of others will be ditching Harvest soon, it's a perfect time for Xero to up their game with timers and projects.

I currently have a pinned Slack message with our 12 re-used tasks to add to every project along with their (same) hourly rate. It's not the end of the world, but it's so tedious, and would make me have a more positive experience using Xero.
