The link already exists. When you create a bill from a purchase order, Xero writes a link and a reference into the History and notes of both records. That is exactly the linkage we need. The problem is it only ever works in one direction, at the moment the bill is generated from the PO.
Our bills do not arrive that way. They come in through document capture and integrations, so the bill already exists as a draft before anyone looks at it. To link it we have to delete the bill, go to the PO, create a fresh one from it, then reattach the source document. Three manual steps to recreate a record we already had.
So this is not really a new feature, just the existing one made available after the fact: on an existing bill, let us select an approved PO and write the same History and notes link Xero already writes today. Exposing it through the API would matter to us as well, because matching a captured bill to the right PO is something software can do far better than a person.
