    Thanks everyone, we understand the interest for being able to pass on credit card and payment service fees to your customers.

    Atm, as some of you have noted - if you're using or set up Stripe as a payment service for your organisation you'll have the ability to pass processing fees onto your customers. This'll be included in the Invoice total when the customer clicks on the Pay now button in your invoice - you can read up on and follow steps on this here.

    Outside this service, while not automated there are ways to represent and pass on fees to your customers;

    • Add detail to your invoice payment terms so this is clear to your customer
    • If there is a default fee that'd be charged you might like to set this up…

    I agree that this one is overdue. It’s annoying that customers can’t easily see the exact fee they’re paying, and businesses don’t want that fee quietly eating into what they get paid.

    Right now it’s a bit all over the place. Stripe can pass the fee on, but if you use something else you’re stuck adding it as a manual line or editing the invoice after. Easy to forget or get wrong.

    The simple fix would be for Xero to show the fee the same way no matter which payment service you use.

    One more thing from working in payments, a lot of this is really about the card fee itself. If a business also lets people pay by bank transfer or open banking, there’s often little or no fee to pass on anyway, so the problem kind of goes away for those payments.

    Either way, showing the fee clearly across all methods would help a lot.
