Import data from Excel spreadsheet into Xero Invoices
Import data from Excel spreadsheet into Xero Invoices to save re-keying information. It would be great to have a feature that allows you to cut and paste data from spreadsheets directly into Xero. I do use the Copy invoice function when repeating invoices are raised however it would be great to be able to import data for the initial invoice. Some of our invoices are between 20 - 70 lines - would save a huge amount of data entry
3 votesHi Rachel, it's already possible to import customer invoices to Xero. It's catered for via the CSV, but you can use our template to enter (or copy & paste) invoice data when using Excel.
When imported to your Xero org, this'll create draft invoices that you can then quickly approve from the invoice list if you're confident in their entry, or open to approve each invoice individually - More on approving here 🙂

AU Payroll: Entering a branch number when filing Single Touch Payroll
Include a section to enter a branch number when filing STP, we have come into an issue where a few of our clients have changed branch numbers throughout a financial year and the process of changing the branch numbers is quite time consuming. I believe if we had the option to include a branch number when filing STP data it would save a lot fo time and confusion.
1 voteHey Telena, thanks for sharing your idea!
As part of our STP 2 updates, we've just released our 'Reset and finalise YTD amounts' tool. This allows you to zero out the amounts reported against the wrong ABN or Branch number and resubmit them against the correct ABN or branch number.
This replaces the previous process of filing negative pay runs to zero out the incorrect amounts with the ATO, and speeds up the time taken to correct your filings.
You can read more about this tool in our 'Correct your STP data after a change in ABN or branch number' article.

Xero Accounting app - Ability to change accounting basis for reports in app
Xero app to have accounting basis (profit and loss) able to change from only accrual to cash
You can only see accrual, it is one of the main features of the app for live information, I find it very hard to know how my current month is actually doing unless.6 votesHey community,👋 thanks for supporting this idea, I’m popping in to switch it across to delivered! The product team have been releasing this in phases and it’s now available for 100% of users 🎉
First, make sure your app is updated. To change the accounting basis, go to the Profit and loss screen, and on the upper right corner tap Options (iOS) or the 3 dots (Android) to go to ‘Set reporting preferences’.
I also just wanted to confirm that this functionality was already available on the web version check out our article about how to Select settings in a report. Note that updating this new setting in the mobile app will not change the setting for the web version. -
Be able to link or tag ideas together for multiple threads for same idea
Perhaps we need to be able to link ideas so that we dont have multiple threads or tag someone So that we know that these have been seen?
There seems to be pages of ideas & unless someone has spent hours searching or had their search criteria correct, another thread is created. if other users could then link then perhaps the votes could be added and the thread might become a top request!
1 voteHey VJ, the community team are actively moderating and merging identical ideas together.
Not everyone will describe their ideas in the same way, so if you can't find an existing idea, you're welcome to create your own!
If we identify duplicate ideas, they'll be collated together to collect the votes 😊

AU Payroll: Adding Work from Home Hours on Payslips
Due to the ATO now requiring employees to keep a record of the hours they work from home in order to claim a percentage of things like internet and electricity bills on their tax return, would it be possible to add this as a Pay Item for employee payslips so it can be easily referenced and submitted for tax purposes.
1 voteHey Nicole, thanks for sharing your idea!
Understand how it'd be useful for employee's to have this information available at tax time.
Just to clarify, it's already possible in Xero to create a custom pay item.
If you need to distinguish between WFH and office hours, you can create a custom pay item for "work from home".

Bank Reconciliation - Undo last reconciliation
sometimes i get a bit gung ho on bank rec after its learnt.
particularly when teh bank feed has an inv number but as i click rec, i notice the transaction has an old number on it.
id like to see an "undo previous" button
3 votesWith no further activity fro my last update we will shift this idea to delivered.
As previously noted - There are a few ways you can undo a reconciliation already. 🙂
The Account Transactions tab will show you both reconciled and unreconciled transactions for a bank account. From here you can select 'the transaction where you'll get an option to Remove & redo.
Alternatively, if you're moving swiftly and aren't quite sure of the last transaction you reconciled, you can jump across to History and notes where you have filters to quickly zone in your most recent activity, click to open the transaction where you can Remove & Redo from the 'Options'

Contacts - Search for invoices in customer/supplier records
It would be great if we could search from within a customer or supplier record for a specific invoice or bill number.
It is difficult at the moment to search as
1) there are always notes in the way that can't be hidden
2) you have to exit the customer/supplier to find the screen where a search is available.Having used other accounting packages, I was shocked to see this wasn't available within Xero.
7 votesHi team, sorry we've not returned to this idea sooner. You'll find with some of the updates we've made to the contacts record it is now possible to view transactions in separate tabs within the Activity of a Contact, and are also able to search transactions in the tab by amount, reference or invoice number 🙂

bank
Would like to see a way to turn off "Bank" status for an account that is no longer used (changed banks or go new credit card etc.). While I still need the account in my records, I don't want to see it coming up in my bank listing all the time.
1 voteHey Anna, if you'd like to remove a bank account from the bank screen, whilst keeping the account transactions, you can 'archive' the bank account.
To do that:
- In the Accounting menu, select Advanced.
- Click Chart of accounts.
- Select the checkbox next to the bank account you want to archive.
- Click Archive.
- Click OK.
This process is reversible😊 and you can restore an archived bank account at any time

Journal report - Export with Narration / description
Could we please have an update on Manual Journals, so if you extract the Journal report it would so the narration/ description we add the each line of the journal report.
Also if we can print PDF a specific journal so it flows well with the above information1 voteHi Navisha, our team have been making lots of development with Xero's new reports.
Yesterday we released the new Journal report where you'll find you can add both Narration & Description as separate columns in this report.
Once set up, you can export the report to PDF, Excel or Google Sheets 😁

Bank Reconciliation | Reconcile with statement amount at given date
I would like to complete a 'proper' bank reconciliation.
To be able to enter a figure from a bank statement and have xero compare that to the bank figure in xero for the same date. This feature is available in the package with the very annoying tv adverts and in old school sage.8 votesHey community, 👋 thanks for supporting this idea. I'm popping in to switch it across to delivered!
Our new bank reconciliation reports allow you to manually enter the closing balance of your account for a set date at the top of the report. This then shows in the report as the bank statement ending balance.
For more information check out our Bank Reconciliation reports support article 😊

Trial balance - Default sorted by account number
Can you please change the default account order of the trial balance to sorted by Account Number as this just makes a ton more sense for accounting. Or give an option to change the user's default ordering. I know you can click on the Account Number column heading to change the order, but I do this 100 times a day.
1 voteHi Christiaan, once you've sorted the report if you save as Custom you'll be able to access this same layout without having to set the sort each time. If it'd be useful as the default for your org you'll be able to set this too. 🙂

Journal Report - Filter by posted date
It would be really useful if the journal report could be filtered on posted date as well as transaction date, currently they can just be filtered by posting date.
That way you could quickly highlight transactions that were posted in a period, after a certain point like a VAT return submitted or trial balance exported for accounts preparation.
1 voteThanks for your idea here, Adam. Our reporting team have just release a new version of the Journal report where you'll find this is now possible!
Along with more detail, you'll find there's the ability to Filter by any column added, including Posted Date 😁

Reporting - Display currency report is run
Hi,
When we export the management accounts of the companies, the currency is never mentioned which is not convenient.
It would be great to add the currency on these documents as we have a lot of currencies.
Thank you.3 votesHi all, coming back in to confirm that as of today you'll find you can now run the Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Budget Variance reports in currencies the org has been using, and you'll be able to select and see the currency the report is run in at the top in the report settings. 😁
If there are other specific reports you'd like to see this developed in please do start a new idea in the site here and we can get a feel for the interest in each of these, too. Thanks!

Reporting - Aged payables report: default to today's date
Aged Payables Report
This new report defaults to todays date, and you cannot create a template that defaults to the end of the current month. I need this report to show the actual invoices owing, as if I use today's date it shows invoices owing that I have already sent to my bank for payment at the end of the month. The old report worked great and defaulted to the month, but it would be great if this was an option for the new report.5 votesHey everyone - Just a quick update to let you know we’ve tweaked the default date picker on this report 😊
Now, if you open the Aged Payables, the date will default to the end of the month, and not today’s date - replicating the behaviour of the old version.
Thanks again for all your feedback on this!

Find & Recode - Tracking
Tracking Category Find & Recode - Please add the ability to do find and recode on tracking categories. Having to manually update tracking categories one by one on each transaction is unreasonable when there are a lot to get through.
1 voteHi Morgaine, it's already possible to add or change tracking through Find & recode.
Might want to try it out in the demo co. first to see how it works 🙂

Groups in Reports - alphabetical ordering (accounts within the group)
Can you please sort accounts within a "group" on the P&L / Balance sheet as alphabetical? Currently they are random it and looks unprofessional
1 voteHi Tara, to offer flexibility users can drag & drop accounts to change the order of where they appear in Financial reports (including within a group) through the Layout editor.
Being open we don't intend to create an auto ordering feature with this option available.

Make expense claim photo feature available for bills
Enable the expenses app to analyse photos of bills and post them as draft bills instead of draft expense claims.
1 voteHi Tom, there are a couple of ways you can auto create draft bills in your org already. Your organisation will have a unique email you can send your bills to your Xero org or you could look to connect Hubdoc to Xero and publish documents from Hubdoc to your Xero org.

Invoice reminders - Set for 14 days after due
An option to turn ALL active reminders off/on for if you are planning to go away for a week or so.
The invoice reminders currently automatically send 7 days after due, which is too early.
Many of our clients pay within the 7 days after due and if I haven't had time to reconcile the payment within that time they will get a reminder.
Please let us be able to adjust when we would like to send reminders such as 14 days or a month or manual option.3 votesHi team, appreciate the default settings aren't suitable for all and it is possible to Edit an Invoice Reminder and enter the number of days before or after the invoice is due that you want the reminder sent at - See our help article here🙂

Branding - Merge field for Credit Terms on Custom DOCX Statements
To allow for the statements in the docx set up to have a field for terms. The due date whilst it prints on the statement it is helpful to the client to see their terms
3 votesHi all, not having any response since my last update we're going to move this idea to delivered. If terms are generally the same you could use Advanced branding and add your payment terms to the docx template as static text so this would be included when sending statements to your customers with that branding applied.

New reports - Ability to automatically include budget that linked to department without editing the layout
The change of reports from the old version to new new version reports. Could the same features be included. The old version of reports are user friendly and had features such as including budget to linked to the department.
However, the new version does not have this facility without the change in edit layout. Which is time consuming when Xero is all about reducing time producing reports. I would like these as standard reports so more time is spent on analysis of reports.7 votesHey community - just a quick update to let you know that this is now live!
Earlier this this month we rolled out an update to the Budget Variance reports, allowing you to to add and choose which budget you view when running the new reports.
You're now able to select budgets from the 'budget picker' drop down pictured in my screenshot.
- Don't see your idea?
