Upload files to a chart of account code
Upload files to an account code in the chart of accounts, rather than to a transaction or a contact. Thinking in particular for lease and loan schedules and calculations, breakdown of accruals / prepayments, pdf bank statements to bank accounts.
1 voteHey community, 👋 thanks for your support on this idea, I'm popping in to switch it across to delivered!
Simply click on the figure in the YTD column on the chart of accounts screen and it opens a detail page with the file upload button on it.
Thanks again for your feedback. It helps us to continue shaping the future of reports here at Xero.

New Invoicing - Show email as address
It would be great to use email address as address in an invoice as often clients only provide an email as contact.
i.e no delivery address.1 voteHi Marcel, with the standard invoice template this will show the billing address on the PDF of the invoice. If you don't have a physical address for the contact and want to include the email address, enter and save this in the billing address details on the contact. You can either do this from their contact record or on the fly when creating the invoice. here's an example I created of how this will appear.

Bank Reconciliation - Warning when matching foreign currency invoices
Hi, there is a critical bug while doing reconciliation that make the app unusable. When trying to link a transfer made in a currency with an invoice made in another currency. The reconciliation doesn't show an error even though the recieved money is incorrect and doesn't match the invoice amount.
1 voteHi Aym, I understand you've also recently connected with our specialists at Xero Support on this.
To share for others on the idea here, in this scenario if the statement line is a partial payment you can use the 'Split' option in bank reconciliation to enter the currency value the amount equates to.
At the bottom of the page you'll see a message highlighting where the calculated exchange rate is significantly different to the defined currency rate for the day.

Invoice Branding - Remove Itemised detail
We use a a CRM system to create our invoice which is then linked to XERO. On our CRM system it itemised the components of the invoice this is also transferred. Is there a way on the xero invoice that this feature is not transferred so that the invoice only shows description and the total value of the job, ie NET, VAT GROSS.
We do not want the client to see the full breakdown. We send statements to our clients which has a link to the invoice due to the issues of the itemised invoice our clients can see this…
1 voteHi Dawn, this is possible with the use of an advanced branding theme. Using the DocX template you can customise the template to remove merge fields that you don't want to be shown to your customer.
Once set up as you like you'll want to upload the template to your branding theme in Xero, and then apply to contacts or to any individual invoices you'd like this template used.

Bills - Separating tax amounts when entering bills
It would be nice if the tax rates show separate on the bills when entering them to know it is calculating properly. I understand we can see the tax broken out after we click approve, but it would be handy to see it before. It would also be nice if we could manually adjust the tax amounts.
1 voteHi Bailey, currently when you enter a bill, if there's more than one tax rate, a different tax total is shown for each tax rate underneath the Subtotal.
These totals are automatically updated live as you enter more lines on the bill - there's no need to save or approve the bill to see it.
If you're experiencing different behavior I'd recommend raising this with our specialists at Xero Support who can get a closer look in to see what's going on.

"Created by" for Invoices, Quotes & PO
"Created by" to be added to the filter in Invoices, Quotes & PO sections
1 voteIt's possible to see who created a transaction from the History & Notes section beneath the transaction.
Alternatively, you could also run the History & notes report, select the type of transactions you want to see and search for 'created' to view all documents created by users in the org.

New Invoicing - highlight issue date when tabbing across
Old invoicing you used to select your "to" contact, then tab across to the date where the date would be highlighted so you could start typing a new date straight away. New invoicing no longer selects the date & takes longer if you want to manually type a date rather than having to use the mouse.
1 voteHi Shannon, we made some changes toward end of 2024 to improve the entry and selection of dates in new invoicing. Having just done a test I can see that when you tab from the To field it'll move across to the Issue date field with the date highlighted and you can easily start typing the date you need just like you've mentioned.

Manual Journal - Import with Tracking
Our client wants to export out of his customised software into xero. The developers have changed the software to fit the xero template but the tracking categories are not importing. I have spoken to a xero specialist and they believe it is not possible to have the tracking category automatically import. This would be a very useful feature for our client.
1 voteSorry it seems there may be some misunderstanding there. It is possible to import a manual journal with Tracking applied.
You'll need to make sure the Tracking Category and Options are spelt exactly as they are in the organisation into the CSV file in the appropriate column.
I've provided an example on this discussion for a customer that was importing invoices, and may help you with this.

Company standard due dates on contacts
Contacts due dates to be set as a standard company wide setting unless changed within the individual contact.
For example as a company we work on the basis that all payments and receipts are due 30 days from invoice, this should be able to be entered within the company settings and should already be filled in when creating a new contact.
2 votesThis is essentially how the Default setting within the Invoice Settings work, Samantha. If you've set a default due date in this screen it'l apply to any invoices you create for all contacts, the only time it is overridden is if you have saved a default due date on an individual contact record, or manually change this within the individual invoice.

Contacts - Days after due date
Discovered an error. In the customer settings, when placing 0 in the field for “Days invoice when due” shows an error, despite Xero using 0 when calculating when an invoice is due.
2 votesHi David, I've just tested adding '0' in the contact record for a customer and saving and don't receive an error. If you're still seeing this behaviour when trying to save '0' for days due after the invoice I'd recommend creating a case with our specialists at Xero Support to take a closer look into this with you. Thanks

New Invoicing - Add last items
New Invoicing - Add last items
The new invoicing interface currently being rolled out does not include this feature. This feature is fundamental to my use of Xero for invoicing.
1 voteHi Keith, if this option isn't appearing where you'd expect I'd recommend raising a case with our specialists through Xero Central so we can take a deeper look into things with you.
If you have previously entered an invoice for the same contact, you should see this option appear not long after adding the Contact. I've attached an example

New invoicing - Attaching supplier invoices
On Classic, we could attach supplier & subcontractor invoices to our invoice when we sent it to clients. We haven't been able to do this since moving to the new invoices. We've reached out to Xero regarding this and the help we have been given has been generic and not at all related to the problem we've sent screenshots about. Very disappointing. What happened to a member of the team accessing our setup in a meeting (??Teams or Zoom etc) and working through the problem with us. That used to happen in the past but that personal touch that made…
2 votesHi Glen, sorry to hear you've not had the best experience recently when seeking help. Generally our team are happy to arrange a call if requested and do offer screen meets to troubleshoot issues.
We know some customers were finding the upload files option a little tricky in new invoicing and recently we released a enhancement that now allows you to drag & drop files anywhere on the screen (rather than directly onto the Files attachment window). I believe this should resolve the issue you've noted, and would recommend giving it a try but please do respond to my update if you're still having any difficulty with this.

New Idea
Has anyone actually had one of their ideas implemented by Xero??
2 votesHi Tony, there are lots of ideas that have come from our community that we have developed and delivered on. One way to get a view of this is to filter a forum by Status = Delivered. Alternatively, if you follow our blog we have been sharing the ideas that we have been delivering each month and the team note which ones have come from our community. Here's an example

Sales - Bulk add payments to non bank accounts
It would be useful to be able to pay invoices in bulk through a designated accounts (which is not a bank account) in the event for example of invoice financing.
Currently we need to go in each invoice and enter the payment details if this is not going through the bank account.
The approach could be similar to the batch payment on the "Bills to pay" side.
2 votesHi Alan, similar to batch payments in the bills side we have batch deposits in invoicing.
You could create a batch deposit to record payments in bulk. Providing payments have been enabled to the account, a non-bank account can be selected for the deposit.

Bills - Link to view historic bills from the same contact from the bill entry screen.
When entering a bill make an easy link to view historic bills which have been paid
1 voteHi Susanne, you can right-click on the supplier name, and select 'Open Link in New Tab'.
This will open the contact's Activity screen in a separate browser tab, showing their previous invoices/bills. 🙂

Products & Services - Abillity to Attach Supplier Quote to Product
We use Products and Services for parts that we buy in as well as what we make and sell and it would be great to have the ability to attach documents just like with invoicing so that original quotes may be attached for future convenient reference.
1 voteYou can already attach files to your Products and Services, Simon. If you open the item from the list , you'll see an option to Attach files in the top right of the page. 😊

Customer service improves
Call the customer allow contact
1 voteHi Nicholas, it doesn't look like you've been in touch with our specialists at Xero Support before?
While you'll need to raise a case through Xero Central, if you feel a call would best help to resolve your question let the team know and they are usually happy to arrange this at a time that suits you.
Having your support interactions recorded through your My Cases on Xero Central means you can always look back at your correspondence with the team at a later date, which can be quite handy if you ever run into the same scenario again. It also allows you to share or set up screen meets with the team to get better detail of any issues, and the team can share links to resources that you can access anytime.

Changing subtitles on reports when changing the year end
Changing subtitles on reports when changing the year end.
When shortening the year end, eg with Basis Reform periods, the year end is showing incorrectly as 'year end and the original year end date' rather than period end and the new year end date. It would be great to have the flexibility to amend subtitle dates within reports so that the accounts can be produced straight from Xero.5 votesHi team, sorry we haven't caught the idea here sooner. Listening to feedback we know the sub heading was a bit of a confusion point for organisation's with a longer or shorter FY.
We've recently made a change so the subheading will now read 'For the 'x' months ended' so the report will be more accurately reflected.
Thanks for your sharing on this with us here.

New invoicing - Enter key decimal point
The old version we used to be able to hit the Enter button whilst we are keying in the number keys to the right of our keyboard. In the new version we have come to realise that the Enter Button makes the decimal points pop up... instead of just being able to put in 50 for fifty dollars. I have been using the Enter key over near those numbers on the right since xero began and I am really hoping this is fixed ASAP if that is ok please
1 voteThanks for raising this with us in product ideas, Leanne. Appreciate it's been a few months since you first started this, however just coming back across and testing with the current experience it appears this is now working as you'd like to see here - When entering data in fields of a row in the invoice, if you press enter you'll move across to the next field. Also within an amount field like Qty or Price when you type in a figure and press enter this will move fields and round the amount to the nearest whole number, unless you have inserted a decimal point.
Let me know if there's anything you feel I'm missing within your idea here. Thanks!

Xero Support - How to create a pro forma invoice from existing features
Xero has a guide to pro forma invoices but nowhere in help is explaining how to do this in Xero. https://www.xero.com/uk/guides/what-is-a-proforma-invoice/
I suggest you create a help page advising users to use Quotes (or possibly drafts) with a custom layout to solve this issue.
3 votesWe'll shift this idea across to delivered - As mentioned in my last update there is a section a little further through the guide "How to create a pro forma invoice" that provides a detail on how you could use a Standard invoice template to achieve this. 🙂
