Reconciliation - Change reporting date for reconciliation of checks
When I enter the month of the bank statement with the bank statement beginning and ending balances and want to make sure all of the transactions from that month's bank statement are accounted for, checks that were written in a previous month but not posted in the bank statement until another month aren't showing up in coded transactions in the month where the bank transaction occurred. The reconciliation with the check payment and the bank transaction can be made, but the transaction doesn't show up in coded transactions section of the bank reconciliation detail report for the month the bank…
2 votesThank you for sharing this detailed idea about how the reporting date is handled for reconciled checks.
We understand the issue you've described. When a check from a previous period clears the bank, the reconciliation report posts the transaction to the month the check was written, not the month it actually appeared on the bank statement. We can definitely see how this makes it challenging to use the report to verify a specific month's bank activity.

Checks - Increase unique cheque/check number limit from 6 characters
When writing a cheque, I am limited to a 6-digit unique cheque number. With QUickBooks I used the date as the checknumber. For example May 31 2025 would be 20250531, then I append a letter to it as 20250531a. With making payment on web sites and then entering checks into Xero this still allows things to sort properly. Being limited to 6 numbers makes it harder to keep track of things.
1 voteHi Stanley, thanks for sharing your idea and explaining your specific workflow for tracking payments. It's really helpful to understand how you use cheque numbers to keep things organised.
We've reviewed your suggestion to increase the character limit for cheque numbers, and it’s now ready to gain support from other community members.
Along with votes, others can now comment to share additional detail about how a more flexible cheque number field could improve their own record-keeping with Xero.

Connection with Belgium (and other countries) tax authorities
We have 3 Belgian customers who are unable to used Xero as there is no connection with Belgium tax authorities, comparable with the HMRC in the UK for MTD VAT returns. If Xero truly want to be a global accounting solution, with Group structures having multiple geographical entities, they need to provide more global support/interaction to avoid clients moving away to alternative solutions.

Bank Feeds - Square bank feed integration
Please please please Xero can you work on a proper Square bank feed integration so we don't have to keep using Amaka or other 3rd party connection apps!!!
Why can't we connect Square as a bank account with a feed similar to Stripe?!?! We are in 2024, square has been around for 15years!!I have so many issues with Square! And it is one of the most widely used payment processors!
A recent example -
A client has a coffee van and uses it to take payments for cups of coffee. I had to setup the Amaka integration so that…32 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on a direct bank feed for Square. We understand that using a third-party integration isn't always seamless and that a direct feed, like the one for Stripe, would make life easier when reconciling your payments.
As noted by others here, the current solution is to connect an app from the Xero App Store to bring your Square transactions into Xero, or you can continue to manually import these.
Right now, building a direct bank feed for Square isn’t in our plans. We're continuing to monitor the interest in this idea, so please keep adding your votes and comments as it helps us see the demand.

Reports - "Find a Report" search (from 'Home' tab) returns results from all tabs
Quality of Life suggestion:
At present, typing in a report name into the "Find a Report" search-box will only give you a return if you're in the correct tab (eg. searching from the 'Home' tab will not return any 'Custom' or 'Drafts' reports).
I suggest that reports from other tabs be included, at least when searching from the 'Home' tab, with an icon/heading to distinguish the tab-origin of the report.
(I appreciate 'Published' and 'Archived' returns could run into the hundreds, so perhaps a toggle/filter would suffice to omit/include those returns as desired)
1 voteHi Jonathan, thanks for this fantastic 'quality of life' suggestion. We really appreciate you taking the time to detail not just the idea, but also how it could work in practice.
We've reviewed your proposal to enhance the "Find a Report" search box so it returns results from all tabs – like 'Custom' and 'Drafts' – not just the one you're currently viewing. We can see how this would make finding the right report much faster.
Your idea is now open for other members of the community to support and add their thoughts to. Along with votes, others can now comment on how a global search for reports, perhaps with the filters you suggested, would improve their own day-to-day workflow.

Invoices - Show 0% tax on non-taxable items, and correct tax % on taxable items in Invoice preview
In Invoice preview for a non- taxable line item there is a tax rate on the line item. At the bottom where tax is calculated the total tax is correct (it does not include tax on the non-taxable item). It is confusing for a client looking at the invoice, they may think they are being taxed on the non-taxable item. Can invoice preview show 0% tax on the non-taxable item and the correct tax % on the taxable item.
1 voteHi Larina, thanks for raising this point about invoice clarity. We agree that it's really important for customer-facing documents to be as clear and easy to understand as possible to avoid any confusion.
We've reviewed your suggestion to have the Invoice preview explicitly show a 0% tax rate on non-taxable line items, while still showing the correct rate on taxable items. We can see how this would make the invoice breakdown much clearer for your clients.
Your idea is now open to gain support and feedback from other members of the community. Along with votes, we encourage others to share their own experiences and comment on how this change would help improve clarity on their invoices.🙂

UK VAT - View multiple unsubmitted VAT returns
We should be able to prepare and view future VAT returns where there are multiple unsubmitted returns. Ie. able to prepare multiple VAT returns for client approval at once. Currently, they have to be prepared and submitted before the next quarter's return is visible.
2 votesHi, grateful for your engagement here community.
Just a quick update that this idea is open for voting and comments from the wider community - please share your thoughts on how this would help you. We'll keep an eye on the support for this idea here.
In the mean time, you may wish to use the “Looking to see VAT transactions for your own date range” option to run off reports for each return period, and then calculate the VAT from this report.

Reports - Change the position of group totals in custom layouts
At present we are able to edit the layout of reports by rearranging, creating formulas, and grouping accounts. It would be INCREDIBLE to be able to customize the following.
1) Group font (size and boldness only)- right now it defaults to a much larger BOLD font than the underlying accounts. It would be nice to choose these sizes and weights
2) Customize the Group Total's Location - at present it shows only as an additional labeled row with the corresponding total. It would be a neater presentation to just have the group total show right in line with its main…

Reconcile period - Tab from Start date to end date
Fix Tabbing issue when creating reconcile period. When creating a reconcile period I enter the first date of a Statement Date Range, hit tab and instead of going to the last date of the Statement Date Range where it should go, it weirdly tabs to the opening statement balance, forcing me to go back and click on the ending date box.
1 voteThanks for your post here , Brenda.
Appreciate some customers prefer to use the keyboard to enter data. I've checked this in with our product team and can confirm, currently if you're entering a date via the keyboard and then press Tab, the cursor will move to the opening balances field.
Appreciate it's not the solution you're asking here, however atm you can press the return key to select the date from the date picker, which will automatically move the cursor to the end of the date field.
We're keeping a watchful eye on the interest of the idea to understand the interest in this.

Xero Accounting app - View VAT due
It would be extremely useful if we could view VAT on the dashboard of mobile phone app. Director only uses Xero on his phone so can never keep track of what VAT is due.
2 votesThanks for your idea here, Sue. Understand how different details would be helpful for different users on the go through the Xero Accounting app.
This isn't something we have plans for right now, but we'll continue to track the interest from your idea here.

Chart of Accounts - Change Xero's default Entertainment ledger codes
Chart of Accounts - the ledger codes (a) Entertainment-100% business and (b) Entertainment-0%. Can you change these categories? We accountants all know that the descriptions are misleading.
Almost all (unqualified) bookkeepers use (a) for client entertainment and claim VAT. Subsequently, accountants blindly treat this category as business expenses, reducing the taxable profit. (i.e. wrongly deduct it for corporation tax purposes) I cannot tell you how many cases I've seen in the past few years.
Please change the default categories to (a) Staff-only entertainment and (b) Client entertainment?
1 voteHi Ray, appreciate your raising this through product ideas.
We'll get a sense of the interest in changing this within the default chart of accounts from the community here.
Just to confirm, while Xero offers a default chart of accounts, you can import your own chart of accounts to set these up as you prefer, or edit individual accounts within Xero.

Balance Sheet - Bank Account assignment with tracking categories
When using Tracking Categories on the balance sheet, we should be able to assign specific bank accounts to specific columns (or tracking categories). it would just be a feature where the balance "as of date" just displays in the column, regardless of all the prior transactions.
Additionally, when paying loans, if a tracking category is assigned for balance sheet tracking purposes using columns, the Bank Balance that is transferred to the note becomes a Liability on the balance sheet. This is crazy. You're essentially reducing the Note liability balance & then increasing it by the same amount as a negative…
1 voteIt does sound like you've set up the Balance sheet in a bit of a niche way to track what you're after here, Sal. Appreciate you wanting more flexibility on how you filter tracking and being able to add a secondary filter for bank account.
I want to be open that this isn't something that we have plans for. We'll continue to track interest from your idea here, but would need to see quite a bit of community support to look at making a change for this in the report.

Hey everyone! The ability to manually refresh your bank feed really depends on the type of connection you have. For many banks connected via Yodlee, you can already give the feed a nudge and refresh it manually within Xero when you're ready to reconcile. Some of our direct API connections also support this, with a few even importing transactions in near real-time.
As this feature is only available on some feeds, we've moved this idea's status to 'Gaining Support' to align with our new statuses for Xero Product ideas. You can read more about this on our blog.
While building a manual refresh option for every feed type is not on our immediate roadmap, we're keeping a close eye on your votes and comments to help us gauge demand for future work.

Bank Feed - Anext Bank (SNG)
Adding more banks in Singapore for the bank feed in Xero.
Example, adding Anext Bank into Xero. Will benefit small businesses who are using digital bank like Anext Bank.
5 votesHi all, just updating the status of this idea to Gaining Support here, to align with our new statuses for Xero Product ideas. You can read more about this on our blog.
For the time being, you can keep your accounts up to date in Xero by manually importing statements from Anext Bank. As per our last update below, we'd also recommend sharing this link with your bank to let them know you'd like to see them connect with Xero, and they can fill in the form if they're interested in Partnering with us.
While we don't have any direct plans for this atm, we'll share if any are made with you here.

Import Accounting Data
Given there is an option to 'Export Accounting Data' in 'General Ledger format', why is there no corresponding facility to Import in 'General Ledger Format '? I have a client with many problem transactions locked by accountants. The solution is to start again with a copy of the accounts, which involves splitting the exported data into several different import templates.
3 votesAppreciate wanting to make the process of setting up a new Xero org, especially in the scenario you've mentioned as simple as possible, Kevan.
While this may be something we look at longer term I want to be open that we don't have any plans for a single import across all areas of Xero right now.
There are third party app partners available through our Xero app store that you may like to engage if you'd like help in this migration and set up process.
We'll keep getting a sense of community interest from your idea here and share if there are any updates planned.

Bank Accounts - Set up loan schedule and amortization
I think we should be able to create with a loan schedule with interest rates, term and amortization instead of having to manually enter the transaction.
42 votesHi everyone, while we appreciate your interest in a direct feature in Xero to schedule and manage loans this isn't something we have planned right now.
We do have some information on Xero Central that may help some here with managing loans in Xero.
We will continue to monitor the community support for this in the forums here, and share if there are any updates.

Multi-Entity - Intercompany Account Transaction Feed
There should be an ability to set up an intercompany account using the bank feed function between businesses that are 'connected'. This would save countless hours manually journalling transactions. You should be able to create a transaction in the bank feed, or mark an invoice as paid by the intercompany account and the corresponding transaction should show on the respective other company.

Bank Feeds - Bank feed form status for all users
When a bank feed form is uploaded, you can see the status of this - currently if one person has uploaded bank feed form, no one else can tell. Would be great if it just showed "bank feed form uploaded and being processed" or something
11 votesHi everyone, thank you for this great suggestion about making the status of bank feed applications visible to all users within a Xero organisation.
We understand that when one team member submits a bank feed form, the lack of visibility can lead to confusion or duplicate work for others.
We encourage you and other members to vote, and add comments below sharing how having a shared status like "bank feed form uploaded and being processed" would improve your team's workflow.
While we don't currently have plans to build this functionality, we'll be keeping a close eye on the support for this idea here and will keep you informed of any updates.

Bank Feeds - Photo imports from Starling account
Hi there,
Is there any way you could integrate the photos I put on my Starling Bank account of receipts I receive for purchases for my business account, so that I don't have to enter them twice, once on Starling and once on Xero.
I realise this is not an option, as it's not happening, but the notes I add do come through, so could the photos too?
In this new digital paperless world, it would be good not to have to keep every receipt and have to remember to photograph it twice. Hubdoc doesn't help, because you still have…8 votesHi Lynda, thanks so much for taking the time to share this excellent suggestion. Automatically importing receipt photos from your bank directly into Xero is a great idea, and we can certainly see how much time that would save you.
As you've pointed out, you can also import your receipts into Xero by using Hubdoc.
For transparency, the direct bank feed for Starling Bank was developed and is maintained by the team at Starling. This means they control the type of data—like the transaction date, amount, and notes—that is sent through the feed to Xero. For that reason, the best way forward is to make this feature request directly to Starling Bank, as they are in the best position to add this functionality to the feed they provide.
We’ll keep this idea open on our forum to continue gathering interest here.

Bank Feed - Connect SumUp as a bank account
It would be great to be able to connect a normal SumUp account like you can Stripe or PayPal not just SumUp POS.
13 votesHi everyone, thanks for your votes on this idea. While we're always interested in integrating with more banks, the most effective way to get a new feed established is for customers to request it directly from their bank. The more that SumUp hears from its own customers that a Xero integration for bank feeds is needed, the more likely they are to work with us to build one.
For now, you can manually import your SumUp transaction data into Xero using QIF, OFX, or CSV file types. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this in the Xero Central article below.
This idea is open for voting and comments, and we'll continue to keep an eye on the interest for this idea here.
