    Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing this excellent suggestion for improving data integrity in Xero Tax. Preventing duplicate client records is incredibly important for practice management.

    We've reviewed your idea to have the duplicate TFN warning also check against archived clients when creating a new record. Your suggestion is now ready to gain support and feedback from other members of the community.

  2. Would be good to have an "Allocate" command button so income, deductions, tax credits are split automatically as per the percentage for each individual in a trust, partnership and LTC company. It is time consuming when there are multiple individuals and varying percentage splits.

  3. Currently in Xero Tax, non-depreciable assets entered into the rental schedule do not roll forward into future income tax returns (ITRs), creating unnecessary manual data entry and inconsistency.

    Suggested improvement: Add support to roll forward non-depreciable assets (such as land) within the rental schedule when generating the next year’s return to maintain asset continuity and save time.

  4. I think to reduce the risk of associated companies not being included in the CT600 in error box 326 should be left blank by Xero but compulsory so that that the return can not be generated without it.

    The same warning you get if trying to complete without boxes 975.

  5. I had a validation error CMN.ATO.DISTBENTRT.000013 generated in an SMSF tax return.
    When I clicked on the validation error it took me to a specific trust income schedule (number 10 of 18), which had several fields highlighted. The error says that there must be a number in any of the fields A B D U and so on - this schedule met this condition.
    After much wasted time trying to re-enter fields, checking there were no blank spaces, deleting and re-entering all fields, deleting and re-entering the whole schedule, I contacted support.
    It turns out the error was actually generated…

  6. AU TAX - Default EFT account type to CLIENT

    Under Cover > Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) > Account type there are 3 options - Manual, Client, and Agent.

    It would be helpful if there was a setting in Client Settings > Client Types to default the EFT Account type, so we don't have to manually change this on every return.

  7. When filing an SA100, allow us to change the Personal allowance of the client to match their actual tax code, so the return can be filed correctly. Currently on the generic tax code is catered for, and this doesn’t account for people who have different tax codes.

  10. Automatic BADR lifetime allowance £1m application.

    At present for a gain of over £1m you need to enter two transactions, one with a £1m gain to apply BADR, and the remainder to be charged at 20% (24/25).

    It would be much better if the system knew the lifetime allowance and applied it only up to the limit.

    At present if you put the whole transaction to BADR it will apply 10% to more than £1m which is incorrect.

    Hi Doina, as mentioned in my recent update here. I've split your idea into two, so we can gain understanding of the support in each separately.

    It'll be good to get a gauge of community interest for a Detailed Profit & Loss in the Statutory accounts for Micro Entities within Xero Tax(UK), through this idea.

    This isn't something we have road mapped atm, but we'll share if there are any updates.

    Appreciate you raising this idea about tracking time on returns within Xero Tax, Neil. It’s something that can make a difference for teams trying to manage capacity or reflect on the actual effort behind each return.

    This idea is now sitting in the gaining support stage, which means it’s open for others in the community to engage with. As more votes and comments come through, it helps the product team see where this functionality might be most impactful and what specific outcomes users are looking for.

    If there’s a particular reporting format, integration, or manual workaround you’re currently using to track this, sharing that in the comments could be really helpful. It adds valuable context and helps show how this could tie into existing practice workflows.


  14. The ATO allows businesses to claim the GST on cents per kilometre based on the business Kilometres travelled. The Milage claim in Xero currently does not have any tax category which means milage claims aren't showing on the GST reports and have to manually added to the BAS otherwise businesses are missing out on GST if not added manually.

    For example, If staff travel 100kms for business, then the claim should reflect the following
    100 kms x rate of 88cents (FY2026) totalling to $88. the $88 is inclusive of GST of $8.

    Hi Camilla👋, we understand the importance of being able to track and claim GST on business mileage and appreciate you letting us know this functionality isn't available within Xero. We know that not having this feature causes extra work to manually calculate the GST on mileage claims. While we don't have this feature at the moment, we’d like to acknowledge the workarounds of manually calculating the GST component of the mileage claim and entering this as a separate line item when processing the expense claim. We understand this isn't ideal and adds extra work, but it may help for now. We're still actively monitoring this idea to see how much support it gets from our customers 👀. As always, we'll continue to provide updates as we have them. Please continue to share your feedback and vote for the idea! ✅


  15. It would be important to be able to edit the payment option available for a specific contact. Example: I have an international client that I would prefer if they did not get the option to pay their invoices with credit card. That would be useful to edit this within their contact settings so I don't have to manually change each of their invoices.

    Hey Fanie, thanks for your engagement and for sharing this excellent idea for managing customer payment options.

    We've reviewed your suggestion to be able to set specific payment options within a contact's settings, and it's now open to gain support from other community members. We can definitely see how this would save time by removing the need to manually edit each invoice for certain clients, like your international customer example.

  16. When inputting R&D figures for a period of account longer than 12 months (i.e. where 2x corporation tax returns are needed), we are unable to put specific R&D expenditures in a specific corporation tax periods. This is an issue with overseas workers where the periods are pre and post 1 April 2024, and where expenditure is only eligible in one of the periods. As currently, the expenditure is pro-rated, this means that non-qualifying expenditure is being brought into one of the periods.

  17. Option for 'Other allowable expenses' in the tax comp to allow the depreciation on assets purchased as a finance lease as capital allowances are not reclaimable but depreciation can be deducted.

  20. It would be good to be able to customise the Declaration that is just above the signing line in the Tax Returns. The default wording is quite broad, and it we would prefer to be able to customise it to reduce our risk. Clients are not always truthful in reporting all income, and we need to protect ourselves.

    Thanks for sharing this idea with the community. We can understand why being able to add specific wording to the client declaration would be useful.

    This idea is open for voting and comments from the community, and we'll be keeping an eye on its progress to gauge interest.

    In the meantime, while it's not possible to edit the declaration on the return itself, you can add your own custom text and disclaimers to a cover letter that you send with the tax return. This might help you manage the risk you mentioned.
