Hi everyone 👋 thanks for your continued feedback and for sharing your thoughts on this idea. While this idea is not currently on our development roadmap, we are always reviewing feedback to help us shape our product priorities. As a workaround for now, you can use the existing data roll-over function for client shareholders and then manually adjust the details for non-client shareholders. We'll be in touch with another update if there is any change to the status of this idea.

  2. Why can't Xero automatically file signed returns once the client has signed the document? Should be a fairly simple update for Xero to manage automatic filing instead of a person having to tick all and click file. Has this ever been considered? Knowing the suspend date is used to hold back a lodgement.

We understand you are interested in a return filing automatically with ATO once your client has signed the return. For now, the process remains that a partner needs to click 'File' in Xero Tax after the client has completed their e-signature. This is because the client-signing process happens through a Portal and not in Xero Tax,, and the final action of lodging the return is designed to be a deliberate, conscious step taken by the practice. We have no immediate plans to change this workflow. The current separation of the signing and filing steps is an intentional part of our design, ensuring the final lodgment is a secure and authorised action from the tax agent.

  3. Automated reminder for Xero Sign Bundle expiration
I have just been caught out again with expiry of unused transactions in my signing pack of 150. Instead of being cut off at expiry date or having to remember to go and look it up could there just be an automated reminder. Also, for us small sole traders it would be great to have smaller bundles than 150, even 50 at a time. Even better, why not let us use all of our transactions we have paid for. Still need an automated message that they have expired.

Hi Angela, thanks for letting us know an automated reminder for your Xero Sign bundles would be a huge help, and we really appreciate you bringing this idea to our attention. For now, the best way to stay on top of your usage is to manually check your remaining transactions and the expiry date in Xero HQ > Xero Sign. A good workaround is to set up your own calendar reminder 🗓️ to check in on your bundle regularly. This will help you avoid any last-minute surprises. Right now, an automated notification for expiring Xero Sign bundles isn't on our immediate roadmap. However, your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps us understand which features are most important to you. We'll be sure to keep you in the loop on any changes to the status of this idea. 🔄

  4. We use Fusesign as our e-sign solution and it would be great to have the option to send a document directly into the signing software. We've seen a much higher engagement level with Fusesign than any other e-sign product as it doesn't require another login, it uses SMS/email verification instead.

A direct link would smooth out the workflow from the tax product > signing (and maybe even into client files in FYIDocs).

Hi Matthew, it appears that FuseSign is already an integrated app Partner with Xero. As they've designed and built their integration with Xero themselves they'd it'd be best to approach their support to see if this is something they'd consider extending their integration for.

You can find their support contact details at the bottom of their app store listing.

  5. It would be great and more efficient if we could add correspondence to the tax returns, rather than have to send separately via myIR.

Hi everyone, while we appreciate hearing how we could make processes more efficient for our customers using Xero, this is not an idea we would be able to take action on.

Inland Revenue do not currently allow correspondence to be sent with a tax return via the Gateway services. This may be feedback that you could share with your IR Account Manager. Thanks

  6. At the moment, we can only add one IR833 per client when doing tax returns. It would be great to have the ability to add more IR833 forms, as otherwise, if the client sells more than one property, we need to file the forms directly through the IRD, which can be time-consuming.

  7. Not a new idea however something that we should be aware of.
The late claims button / tab on the new GST return will not show to look into transactions if the Net amount of the total late claims is Nil. This means that if a change is made from April date to March date in July period, when you look at the late claims in the June July return because the amount is netted as Nil they dont show. making it very hard to reconcile your End of Year GST back on workpapers.

Hi team, as noted in my last update - while we appreciate your feedback, we don't have any intentions of changing how this is shown within Late claims. We'll move the idea to Not planned so others coming across the idea here are aware. Thanks

Hi everyone, thank you for your continued input and feedback through this idea. Since my last update as some may have seen we have announced a new plan Xero Simple designed to support non VAT registered sole traders and landlords, as they prepare for the next phase of Making Tax Digital. And, that MTD IT will be available for all Xero business plans - see more on my update here.

While we understand the desire from small businesses in Xero Tax for the UK, our intention is for this to remain a Partner only feature. We'd highly recommend connecting with a Xero adviser if this is a tool you'd like to make use of.

  10. Farmers averaging schedule on personal tax. This is an averaging adjustment over 5 trading years and is essential for our farming clients.

Hi everyone, we appreciate your interest and contributing to the idea here.

While this is something our teams are keeping a close eye on, we want to be honest that for the time being we do not have any plans for developing automatic calculations for this with Xero Tax(UK).

Atm, we're waiting to see how HMRC will support farmers averaging within MTD IT before making any plans to develop a solution within Xero. We will share if there are any updates surrounding this for you, here.

  11. The format of the 2023 IR 3 return does not appear to allow for a nil amount of FIF income. When nil is entered (which will be the case when the CV method produces loss), an error arises. The disclosure of FIF income (even if nil) may be important for statute barring purposes and will also avoid subsequent queries from IR (once exchange on information between countries lands on IR desks) on why a taxpayer may not disclosed offshore dividend income (where those dividends arose from FIF investments). The suggested fix of amending or notifying through MyIR seems to defeat…

Hi community, though we appreciate your feedback here there are limitations on what combinations of data can be submitted via gateway services and these are set by IR and Xero tax must conform to these rules.

We'd recommend contacting your IR account manager on the best way to file this return data.

  12. For deceased individual clients, the period end date for their final tax return needs to be changed to their date of death. The tax return should not still be reporting the entire financial year.

There is a cell where we are able to input client date of death.

Recommending for product team to code this update so the period end date of these individual tax returns are also updated to reflect the Date of death.

Hi everyone, while we appreciate you raising the idea for this here, we want to be upfront that this is not something we're looking to develop.

For electronic lodgment, the ATO's requirements to report the whole year with data of death as an extra field. There are validations and calculations that use this date. This is different to paper lodgment.

As this is the case, we will not make the end date editable.

  13. For the NZ tax returns can you add the Appointers to the Import function a bit like the beneficiaries, this is required to be reported to the IRD each year going forward.

Thank you for your engagement with this idea, we know that some of you are interested in the ability to add appointers to the IR6 return. ATM power of appointment can’t be filed electronically, this is a restriction imposed by IRD. The information can be recorded in contacts if appropriate but it can't be used in the tax module unless IRD change their rules.
