Hi everyone, thanks for sharing how we can make managing contacts in Xero more efficient. We understand the need to keep your contact list clean and uncluttered, and how being able to fully remove unused or duplicate contacts would help simplify things.
At this stage, permanent deletion of contacts isn’t in the pipeline. That said, your feedback has been shared with our product team as part of ongoing conversations around improving contact management.
For now, you could create a “Deletion Contact” in Xero and merge any unwanted contacts into it before archiving. It’s a quick way to clean up without having to archive each one separately and minimise clutter.
We appreciate your input and your continued partnership as we work to improve the experience, and we’ll keep you posted if there are any updates.

Please please PLEASE let us delete contacts with no transactions associated with them!!
Why have people been asking for this for 10 years and nothing been done?!
It is FAR too easy to create a new contact when you're creating an invoice by just typing the first few letters of your chosen current contact. The name has appeared in the drop down menu, but the internet/Xero is too slow it's not highlighted it yet, enter, then HEY PRESTO!! A new contact has been created!! With the first 3 letters of your real customer contact. Awesome. No phone number associated. No contact name. No address. No email address. No vat info never mind accounting preferences. Just yet another 3 lettered duplicate contact. Great. Messy Xero.
At the very least you could offer an "are you sure" box needing another click/enter before you get to add another contact???
