Hi team, we want to acknowledge your feedback and the needs you’ve expressed for being able to view the transaction line description in the account transactions report.

While we appreciate not the news you’re hoping for here - we want to be honest with you all that there are no plans at this stage to change the behaviour of this report.

We appreciate there can be some confusion of what is shown as it does differ based on the account and the line’s origin. We have added detail within our Xero Central article, but I’ve also noted below for ease of reference.

    • For accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, and tax account, it shows the contact’s name.
    • For all other accounts, it shows the contact’s name and the item line description.
    • As manual journals don’t have contacts, it shows narration and description.

I'm never really sure of the point in commenting on these things just to repeat the same frustration expressed by everyone else. There will be several other identical 'ideas' with the same frustrated users, plus tenfold users who see the complete lack of action and don't even bother voting or commenting. Then there are the thousands of users who find this similarly irritating but just quietly get on with their working lives unaware that there is a product ideas forum where you can waste even more of your time writing comments that get ignored.

However, on the Account Transactions screen I would love to see the Contact in a contact column, the Description in the Description column and the Tracking Categories in a Tracking Categories column. Why not have the ability to select the columns that users wish to have visible - like every other database-type software (I acknowledge the initial request was about the Report, but the same issue relates to the bank account view).

Appreciate the interest in being able to search by description. While we're attentive to your feedback, I want to be open that we don't have any immediate plans for developing this atm.

We're staying close to feedback on how we can improve navigation for our customers when using Xero, and I'll let you know if there is any development planned surrounding this, here. Thanks

Is there a practical limitation to why this isn't being implemented? For us, and clearly for a large number of users, it's inexplicable that this isn't a basic function. The strength of feeling is clear, and yet for nine years, this suggestion has gone unaddressed. An explanation beyond 'we're just not gonna bother' would be helpful.
