Hi everyone, we appreciate your detailed feedback on how default tracking options for inventory items would improve your use of Xero. Atm, it’s possible to set default tracking on a Contact, however do understand why this isn’t suitable for all of you.
At this stage there’s no set plans to develop tracking in Xero inventory.
This is something we may consider in the longer term and we’ll continue to monitor votes and your feedback. We’ll update here if there’s any progress.

When you set up an item, it would be great if you could link a tracking category to it so when the item is selected for a sales or purchase invoice, the tracking category is automatically added. At present when you add the item to the invoice you still have to manually select the tracking category it relates to
To do this, all you would need to do is add the tracking category dropdown to the Item set up screen. This would make then mean the tracking category is always present when the item is selected, hugely improving reporting analysis.
