Hi everyone, we appreciate you sharing this idea and explaining how valuable it would be to submit OSS returns directly from Xero.

Currently OSS and IOSS returns are separate from the UK VAT return and must be filed directly with HMRC. HMRC doesn’t currently provide a public API that third-party software such as Xero can use to submit these returns, so filing them directly through Xero isn’t possible at this time.

Based on this we don't have any plans for this feature in the short term, should HMRC change their processes we may revise this in the future.

In the meantime, our Xero Central guidance on non-standard UK tax rates explains how to record and identify OSS and IOSS transactions in Xero and prepare the information needed to file your return outside Xero. Thanks

Hi everyone, thanks for engaging us on the idea here.

As previously shared - right now, the transactions report on the VAT return can be exported, fro which you can sort, search or filter transactions.

However we appreciate the improvements this could have if available in Xero.

This is something our product team have picked up and are working through. For now, we'll move to In development and I'll keep you updated on it's delivery here. 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing this idea, and to everyone who’s added their thoughts and votes.

We can see why having a clearer view of which VAT return a transaction was included in would be helpful, especially when reviewing bills, invoices, and adjustments.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can keep listening and better understand the demand for this improvement. If this would make a difference to your workflow, please keep the votes and examples coming — they really help our product team understand the impact.

We’ll continue to share updates here as we learn more.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding multi-VAT tracking and or filing for EU countries, including Ireland. Currently, Xero supports only UK VAT returns, so tracking VAT in multiple countries requires separate Xero organisations. Also features like direct integration with EU tax authorities such as Ireland’s Revenue Online Service (ROS) (specifically) are not available at this time, and multi-country VAT support is not currently in our development pipeline. For Irish VAT requirements, you may wish to consider Parolla, which offers direct ROS integration and features tailored for Irish businesses.

We appreciate your feedback and will continue to review suggestions as we plan future updates.

Thanks for sharing this idea and for explaining the need for greater visibility into the transactions that make up the unfiled VAT amounts. We understand how valuable for your business it would be for the VAT Reconciliation report to provide a clearer view of the VAT ledger and make it easier to investigate these balances.

We can move this idea to Accepted for the time being. We have plans to develop the Reconciliation report over time, but this work isn’t on our roadmap just yet. We’ll keep you updated here when things start to pick up.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Hi community, we recognise it's been some time since our last update on this idea and apologise for the delay in coming back here.

After our last post, priorities for the team did pivot and work for showing current VAT liability was put on hold.

While not actively underway atm, we have intentions of surfacing an organisation's VAT liability total on the dashboard on our longer terms roadmap. While we'll move this idea to Accepted for now, as soon as there is movement we'll be back to update you again. Thanks

Thanks so much everyone for the votes, comments, and continued interest in this idea over such a long time. It’s clear this has been on people’s minds for a while, and we really appreciate everyone who has taken the time over the past three years to share context, use cases, and support. 😊

Given the ongoing interest and the value in the discussion so far, we’re moving this into Gaining Support so it can keep building momentum and visibility. Please keep the feedback coming — the more detail we have on customer impact, use cases, and urgency, the easier it is to show why this matters.

Thanks again for sticking with it and helping keep the conversation alive.

Thanks to you all for sharing and supporting this idea. We understand how helpful it'd be to identify unreconciled statement lines within the VAT period before completing a return, reducing the risk of missed transactions.

This is being considered as part of a wider piece of work to help identify and resolve outstanding items at the right point in the tax-filing process. While it's not in development as yet, we'll keep you updated as work gets picked up.

Hi everyone, we appreciate why you’d like a report that provides visibility of VAT late claims to streamline your reconciliation processes, especially around year-end and for monthly VAT returns.

Currently, it's possible to use the Account Transactions report to manually reconcile against filed VAT returns, although we get the desire for a more automated solution.

This isn’t on the team’s roadmap at present, however this is something we'll continue to consider how we accommodate these needs in future planning for tax reports in Xero. I'll be sure to let you know if there is any movement to share, here.

You can see from the comments below that this is really and very unpractical way and time consuming at best. Moreover I believe at least the transaction report should have a filter of entry date so we can set the date to after the date of filling. In all fairness I love Xero but this is really doing my head in and is a sure disadvantage to any accounting software out there,

Hi community, thanks so much for all the interest we received. The teams interview spots filled up quickly and they are now fully booked.

Apologies if you didn't manage to sign up to one of the interviews — We really appreciate your enthusiasm and may reopen the link for future research rounds. We will make sure to update here if there's more opportunity.

We will be back to share outcomes from the teams exploration.

Hey everyone, we know it can be tricky when you're managing lots of client accounts and need a way to easily tell them apart in Xero.

Thanks for your feedback on how a visual cue, like being able to set different colours for each organisation, would help cut down on confusion and those accidental data entries.

We've seen some of you have found workarounds, like using Chrome extensions or third-party Google add-ons for customisation. It's great to see the community finding creative ways to tackle this in the interim.

Right now, adding this feature isn't in our immediate plans. This is something we'll continue to keep an eye on the support for and may reconsider in future planning. I'll share if there are any updates around this here.

Hi everyone, we've been tracking this idea for some years now and truly value all the feedback we've heard on the desire and time saving reducing the manual steps in reconciliation

would achieve. We completely get wanting to skip that extra ‘OK’ click when you trust the suggested matches.

We’re excited to share that this idea is now in development. At Xerocon this year we shared automated bank reconciliation - Using JAX to automatically match and categorise your bank transactions with your Xero transactions.😊

It's in beta already and being tested by a small group of users atm, and as soon as we have more to share on this rolling out wider I'll give you another update here. Thanks again for helping us shape the future of Xero!

Hi community, thanks for all the support here. We appreciate how some users would find a notification for items awaiting approval a time-saver, and could improve efficiency in approval and payments.

You may have heard of our new homepage experience that will be rolling out to all customers over the coming months. With improvements to the Invoices owed to you, and Bills to pay widgets there is now a summary for invoices and bills that are awaiting approval, with clickable links so you can go straight to the list of invoices or bills to approve. We know this isn't a direct notification of sorts but should help you get a good feel for these at a glance - If you don't have this yet you can get a feel for what's coming in the homepage from the demo company.

We want to be upfront that while we'd like to explore…

Hi everyone, the demo company provides the ability to test and trial Xero features without impacting data in your live organisation. It's especially useful when you're getting started with the product or want to see how a feature works that you haven't used before.

That said, we understand not all our customers want or need access to the demo company. We appreciate your feedback on being able to hide or remove this here, and our product team are aware of the interest and feedback surrounding this - Both from this direct thread and the previous commentary and votes from the older forum where this originated.

While we don't have immediate plans, this is an area our team are looking to review. We will update you if there is any planned changes to this, through this idea.
