Appreciate you raising this, Caleb. Supporting macrons consistently throughout Xero could help ensure names and other information are recorded accurately.
We've moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback. We'll keep the team updated on the interest and use cases shared here as they consider future improvements.

Hi Karin, would it be possible to get a few more examples of names that you've tried to import and not have show with macrons?
One of our team have tested creating a contact via import with the name Whakatāne (/mækrn, me-/) and this created a contact in Xero as shown in this image.
It'd be great to better understand and see if we can look into this a bit more.

We have this issue as well. It typically shows the macron's for us fine on the front end GUI, its when you create PDFs or send invoices or quotes that these are then shown as incorrect characters - its not even that the macrons are left off, the character itself is completely incorrect and reflects very poorly on an organisation to their clients! E.g Te Reo Māori comes out as Te Reo Miori
I would like to add this is very important. It also links to the following product idea raised back in 2022!! https://productideas.xero.com/forums/967130-contacts-files/suggestions/45712846-contacts-allow-macrons-for-languages-such-as-te
It reflects very poorly on a business when on the front end the macrons appear fine but when the invoice or quote is sent to a client and their name or your descriptions are illegible on the PDF. Its very embarrassing!
