Hi everyone, we appreciate your detailed feedback on how default tracking options for inventory items would improve your use of Xero. Atm, it’s possible to set default tracking on a Contact, however do understand why this isn’t suitable for all of you.
At this stage there’s no set plans to develop tracking in Xero inventory.
This is something we may consider in the longer term and we’ll continue to monitor votes and your feedback. We’ll update here if there’s any progress.

This is quite unbelievable that it's not supported. I have to select two categories for every line on every invoice. Why on earth would you leave defaults out of items? It takes me twice as long to enter invoices.
Please add this, it's ruining what is a fantastic experience otherwise. Coming from Sage, I've really like Xero but this is so GAH!
Use case (which I thought would be very common): I use tracking for Design (a design that is used across multiple items such as magnets or postcards) and a Range (a piece of artwork that can have multiple designs).
My categories are all about items, yet items don't support it :(
