Thanks so much for taking the time to share this, and for calling out how the renew / refresh bank feed experience on the new homepage.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining support. This means it’s not currently scheduled on our roadmap, but we agree it could improve key banking workflows, so we’re now watching community votes and comments to help us prioritise it alongside other homepage and bank feeds work.

Please keep adding any extra details about your workflow (for example, how often you’re refreshing and how many bank accounts you manage) and encourage others who’d benefit to add their vote — that will help us understand the impact when we’re reviewing future changes to the homepage bank accounts widget.

I noted in one of the other topics that the bank account widgets re. reconciliation status is broken. Today I've been able to recreate the issue.

The problem occurs when there's a transfer between two accounts - for example, when you move cash into a savings account, or when you make a payment to the credit card.

In these scenarios, there can be a delay between the bank feeds. Step to reproduce:

    1. Make a transfer between two accounts.
    2. Reconcile the first account bank feed (before the second account bank feed has arrived) which will create the transfer journal entries between the two accounts in Xero.
    3. Wait for the second bank feed to arrive.

In this state the first account will correctly show as reconciled, and the second account will show a balance difference. There will be no CTA option to reconcile the second account. This state is correct, and identical to the previous widget behaviour.

    4. The second bank feed arrives.

In this state the first account continues to be shown as reconciled. However, the second account also now shows as reconciled - THIS IS INCORRECT and is different to the previous widget behaviour. The CTA option to reconcile is also shown under the account (correct).

I can no longer obtain a comparison image of the old widget behaviour as the ability to switch back has been removed. But the key differences is that the old widget continued to show an unreconciled balance difference - i.e. it did not say the balances are reconciled when the CTA reconciled option was presented.

In summary - the green "reconciled" status on the second account, after creating one side of the transfer inside Xero, is not correct and the account is not reconciled as clearly shown by the CTA to reconcile 1 item.

I've also spotted this issue on the new homepage widgets - on the old homepage the widget showed a balance difference and there was a clear CTA button to reconcile transactions.

On the new homepage widget, the green tick and reconciled is shown, which meant it was easy to overlook transactions were waiting for reconciliation.

EDIT: This only seemed to happen on certain types of transactions - specifically in my case when I'd made a credit card payment, and one side of that payment had been transferred, but the bank feed hadn't yet updated. For other transactions, I do get the reconciled button showing on the new homepage widget and no green tick/reconciled status. I suspect this needs better testing of edge cases.

Thanks for he feedback here, team. Atm we don't have any plans for surfacing your outstanding invoices as a list within the widget, however we appreciate feedback we've received around the graph and our team are working on some sizing updates that would enable you to remove the graph on both the Invoices owed to you and Bills to pay widgets. You can stay updated on this work through the idea here.

    +1 this suggestion.

We already have 4 other dashboards (available under the Reporting, Analytics menu) that cover the graphs and charts for bills/outgoings and invoices/incomings. I don't need these replicated on the main homepage also.

Having both of these as a simple list in the same format as the paid invoices would be a far better use of the dashboard real estate.

Better yet - keep the existing widgets as an option, and add new widgets for the alternative format and let us choose which widgets we prefer.

Ironically this was one of the things the balance history chart (which was removed from the account widgets) helped to identify.

Previously, all credit cards had a red/negative chart identifying negative balances; current accounts without overdrafts were always showing a blue/positive chart. When they were fixed/placed in separate columns it was very easy to know what was where (even if a bank account went negative, bank accounts always in column 1, and credit cards always in column 2 - can't do that now, they move around, especially if you have more than 10 bank accounts or so, they need to flow left-to-right at the bottom and you can have 3 or 4 columns to fill on large/wide screens).

With the removal of the charts on the account widgets, they all now look the same.

It's made even worse with the removal of the brackets around negative numbers, at a quick glance the negative symbol in front of a number is so easily overlooked. There's a reason accountants have used brackets for negative numbers for years. Why some product designer decided that years of accounting standards should be ignored (within an accounting product) is really beyond me.

Given several feedback points on the forum, I feel now is the time to investigate exposing greater visual customisation options - not just for the homepage, although this could be an initial test ground, but also across the whole of the product.

Most of these can be implemented quite easily through adjustments in CSS, driven by user preferences, ensuring that Xero holistically adopts a consistent set of rendering styles. There should be zero impact on the actual functionality, with the majority of the changes/improvements sitting entirely within the presentation/UI of the product.

These preferences would include visual and accessibility options, such as:

    1. The ability to choose whether borders are shown around widgets.
    2. How negative numbers are shown, whether in red/black and using minus or brackets.
    3. How many columns (a maximum) are shown on the dashboard (2, 3, or 4).
    4. Possibility for "dark" and "light" themes, or even a custom theme defined by the user.
    5. Whether high-contract colouring is adopted, or other accessibility options such as font-size.

There are many feedback points regarding these individual issues - rather than being fixed by Xero itself (which is what the Xero responses seem to imply), I believe the majority of the feedback is showing that we need visual customisation/flexibility to ensure that Xero works within our individual workflows and our own business/working environments.

To be honest, I'm surprised this further level of flexibility has not been considered as part of the new homepage - although I appreciate to get a consistent level of customisation across the whole product would be involve further effort (especially if those areas have not been designed to support easy customisation through CSS).

Hi Juliet, thanks for sharing this idea! A direct "See All" link on the dashboard would make it even easier to view and manage all your bank accounts in one place.

Right now, you can click into Accounting > Bank Accounts to see the full list, but having a single shortcut from the Homepage would help you move through your reconciliation tasks more smoothly. I’ve moved this to Gaining Support so our product teams can track interest and see how this could enhance the daily experience for users.

Hi everyone, it does sound like a bank feed status indicator would be a really helpful addition, giving you a quick sense of whether your imported statement lines are fully up-to-date or still processing.

We understand how important it is to have that confirmation—without a clear visual cue, it can be hard to tell if the feed is still loading, has completed, or if something has gone wrong. Knowing the current status at a glance helps you trust the numbers and act quickly if there’s an issue.

As such, we've moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can track interest in making bank feed status more visible on the homepage. It would be great to hear from the community and understand how this could make a difference for everyday workflows.

Hi Lyn, thanks for adding your feedback on our prototype for the new Xero homepage in regards to running totals for VAT/GST/BAS and Corporation/AU/NZ Tax, this is incredibly valuable to the team as they make the refinements.

We know this addition would help you keep a closer eye on your business's financial health. We appreciate your continued feedback on the prototype homepage and encourage you to leave more feedback for us.

The new homepage is full of poorly designed widgets - but I wanted to give you a specific example where the new design has gone wrong.

Compare the old VAT widget and the new VAT widget. At a glance the old VAT widget:

    1. Clearly shows two separate submissions, due to the line that separates them.

    2. The payment due (in 2 days) clearly stands out as being important due to that entry being in bold and the amount being right-aligned within the widget.

    3. The title (and time status since last update) being in a different colour, clearly indicates it's ancillary information. (The title being blue also indicates that this is a clickable link to take me to the VAT section.)

Compare this to the new widget:

    4. The major eye-drawing information is "91 days". This is no where near as important as the 2 day payment deadline. (NB: It might be important if there wasn't a more important deadline before the 91 days, or if the 91 days was actually under 30 days or something.)

    5. It's not as clear that there are two submissions being reported; indeed the second listed submission is done in such a way to suggest it's sub-information of the top listed information

    6. As a result of the stylistic changes, it's very easy to miss the 2 day deadline - the most important information that's being conveyed.

I raise this widget specifically as it's a good example of why the new dashboard widgets completely miss the mark in being as efficient as the old dashboard widgets, and provides insight into where many of the new homepage design errors exist.

With the old widget it's easy to scan the right-hand side of the widget and see that a payment is due, and the bold text and line separators assist in the instant recognition this is for the previous submission. Everything just "pops" from a simple eyeballing, no actual reading is needed.

With the new widget, nothing "pops" - you have to READ the widget to understand what needs to be done. The only thing that's popping is the 91 days, which is the least important information.

Most other widgets suffer from similar issues.

Can we please look to undertake another pass of ALL the widgets to improve their usability, and efficiency of information presentation.

Hi team, thanks for feeding back on my last update, it's good to hear how the contrasting has or hasn't helped solve needs for differing users.

We appreciate further context of your needs here and want you to know this is something our team have still been looking into.

We now have a piece of work underway that when released will show borders around widgets on the homepage 🙂 Though I can't give timeframes for this as yet, I'll keep you looped in on further updates for this here.

If you're able to apply custom CSS to the site, and know how to do this with browser extensions, you can use the following - I'm using this as a work-around to provide the widget borders until they get this fixed.

    .dashboard-template-beta-widget--contents article { border: 1px solid #c0c0c0; }

NB: For anyone else using my previous CSS hacks, note that I've updated this to work better given the current version of Xero.

Perhaps useful for the technical minded and/or Xero devs...

I've added lines around the widgets myself. You can use add-ons for your browser (if you know technically what you're doing) to override the style for Xero itself.

If you know how to do this, and want to do this as a temporary work-around, you can use the following CSS - this will fix the number of columns to 3 no matter the screen size, and will add a border around the widgets.

    .dashboard-template-beta-grid { grid-template-columns: repeat(3, 1fr) !important; }
    .dashboard-template-beta-widget { width: auto !important; height: auto !important; }
    .dashboard-template-beta-widget--contents { height: auto !important; border: 1px solid #c0c0c0; }

I've made a raft of style changes myself to the new homepage using browser add-ons to override Xero's own style - temporary workaround until they fix everything.

Appreciate hearing your feedback on this here. I can assure you our teams did a lot of testing with all aspects of the homepage prior to it's rollout however we totally understand there are different views of what information would be most valuable, where. This is exactly the type of thing we're keen to hear and understand the appetite of through product ideas.

Just to confirm, while slightly changed in terms of placement it's possible to view Drafts for Invoices and Bills in their related Invoices owed to you, or Bills to pay widgets.

This is now found beneath the graph where you can click the 'x' drafts text to go straight to the list of draft invoices (or bills).

We don't have any immediate plans for changing the placement of the Drafts link within the Invoices owed to you, or Bills to pay widgets however we'll begin to get…

    Hi there!

Thanks for sharing such detailed feedback on the bank balance charts.

I’ve categorized this as Gaining Support. While we don't roll back to previous versions of the homepage, I’ve refined your idea to focus on making the balance charts configurable (1, 3, 6, or 12 months).

This covers your need for historical data while allowing for future flexibility.

Since our forum works best with one idea per post, I've focused on the chart visibility first. I’d recommend raising the "balance projection" as a separate suggestion so it can be voted on individually!

What's annoying is that the new homepage Bank Account widget uses roughly the same amount of space as the old widget, yet it displays significantly less information with the removal of the graph.

It's also broken. The other day, for me, it was showing the account as having the green tick and saying "reconciled" even though the balances were different and transactions still needed to fully reconciled. The old widget always would have shown that review/actions are needed.

I also preferred the style of the old pop-up menu which clearly listed options under headings - find, new, reconcile, feeds. When I was new to Xero this was much more "newbie friendly". The new pop-up menu just lists everything in a single list and has some of the options removed.

Hi everyone, it makes a lot of sense to want a cleaner way to organise dashboard widgets. When related items like bank accounts or invoice summaries are grouped together, it’s easier to find what you need without much scrolling..

For now, you can use the Edit dashboard button at the bottom of the page to reorder widgets—move your most-used ones to the top and hide the rest.

This idea is now Gaining Support, so we can see how many others would like more control over dashboard layout. We’d love to hear how you’d group your widgets—keep the votes and comments coming!
