  1. Once an organisation is closed, Xero could retain access but disable:

    New invoices
    Bank feeds
    Payroll
    Editing
    New transactions

while allowing records to be viewed.

You shouldn't have to continue paying a full monthly accounting subscription purely to look at historical records. Especially to continuing Xero Clients

  4. Please add the ability for admins to receive an email notification when a user hasn't logged into an organisation for a configurable period (e.g. 3, 6, or 12 months). This should cover all users with access, including our own staff, as well as any accountants or bookkeepers invited into our organisation.

Access often persists long after someone has left our organisation or after an accountant/bookkeeper relationship has ended, and there's currently no easy way to spot this. An automated alert for dormant accounts would let admins proactively review and remove stale access, reducing security risk from old, unmonitored logins (e.g.…

  5. Amazed to discover that a 'login' from the app on a mobile phone using biometrics for example, does not count as a 'login' at all and is classified by Xero as an 'unlocking' event, but this is not logged or tracked at all (that we users can see). So in effect the 'Login History' in 'Settings' is completely flawed. This is also not recognised in 'History & Notes' unless the user actually makes changes. So if they are just in there viewing stats etc. they are invisible. This is really not ideal.
I would like to see app logins included…

  6. It would be really useful to be able to log into more than one company on an reference basis only. I'm often in the middle of something when I am asked a question relating to another company by a colleague or client. I have to log out just to find one bit of information. I might have multiple windows open with different reports etc that I then lose. This is also very important when working on related companies to see intercompany loans in both companies at once. I can see why it would be a problem to post changes to…

Hi Cath, when you say you have to log out and then into the other org, are you using 2 separate Xero account logins?

Appreciate not the ideal solution but you could use incognito mode atm, to open the organisation you need to reference?

  7. When I login to Xero, I enter my email address and password and am taken to the second page (MFA).

I'm then asked for the authenticator code, but I have to click into the field to enter the code.

Xero knows that there is an almost 100% likelihood that the first (and only) thing I am going to do on that page is enter the MFA code.

Xero should automatically have the cursor in that field so that I can type the code without clicking into the field.

Thanks for the continued support and feedback shared here, everyone. Totally appreciate wanting to save clicks and improve the efficiency of logging in to use Xero.

Our product team have reviewed this and it's something they'd like to take a closer look into longer term, however isn't roadmapped just yet.

As soon as there's any progress to update you of I will share with you all.

Hi team, we've just launched passkeys to our first group of users. From this week, Xero Me app users who haven't set up MFA yet will be able to use passkeys to log into Xero. Next, we'll be progressively rolling this out to more users over the coming months. We look forward to and welcome your feedback here. As we have more news on the rollout I'll share with you on this idea.

  9. The current signup process, while being advertised for bookkeepers actually requires a registration with the TPB as a tax or BAS agent, however pure bookkeepers categorising transactions and doing account reconciliations have no need to lodge BAS' and hence no reason to obtain a BAS agent number.

This oversight prohibits bookkeepers from signing up to the partner program and growing the platform.

A simple "do you intend to make lodgements for your clients - yes/no" button before the "BAS agent number" input field would suffice.

Appreciate you sharing the idea here Hamish. bookkeepers can’t sign up for the Xero partner programme without BAS/TPB registration at the moment. We understand this may not be useful for people who do not want to register for Tax. We'll open this idea up to the community so we can gain some support on it. In the meantime, make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

Along with votes, other members can now comment to share additional detail about how your idea could improve their experience with Xero.

  10. Hi Community,

In relation to XERO security, I suggest all users should have a password expiry functionality where after a period (eg 6 months) it prompts all users to change their password.

Hi Simon, thanks so much for taking the time to share this great idea about improving login security.

We've had a look, and your suggestion to add a password expiry feature is now open for the community to vote and comment on.

We're keen to see what others think! They can now add their votes and share how this would help them manage their own business's security policies in Xero.

  11. When the screen locks it would be helpful to have the option just to logout. Currently if you have timed out but finished working on Xero you actually have to login just to be able to log out which is a waste of time.

Appreciate the feedback here. While we don't have plans for adding a button to instantly logout from this inactivity setting we will keep watching interest in this idea grow and share if any changes are planned.

  12. Have a designated advisor / subscriber have the ability to remove multi factor authentication from a user so that a new method can be set up by the user.

Purpose: For those businesses that have operators which are not tech savy, having either the subscriber or the advisor who holds a professional membership / qualification, who have passed ID verification processes, let the designated person have the ability to toggle off multi factor authentication so that the user and re set up their authentication process so that when their phone is lost or stolen and their alternative entry points don't…

  13. Audit trail of logins to Xero - there seems to be a series of different visual aids and short screen reports showing when a user last logged in, however from an audit perspective, it would be ideal to have a report that can be run for set periods showing when users have logged in. The information to run this type of report is there from the History and Notes report and the Assurance Dashboard. However a report that shows a time/date stamp would be ideal as evidence in cases of fraud/performance management

Hi team, we appreciate the feedback and why you'd like to be able to look at history of logins for an organisation.

Right now, while not a full audit trail like you're after here there is the Assurance Dashboard where you can view User Activity to see what actions users within an org have been taking.

As many will know the History & notes report will also give you deeper insight into some of the actions made by users across your org.

Being open this isn't something we have immediate plans for developing but will continue to keep a close pulse on this idea here and support it continues to receive. If there are any updates we will share.

Thanks for your feedback, Johanna. I want to be open, while we'll continue to work on improving the experience when verifying with Xero we don't have any plans to remove the Xero verification process or completely integrate this with other systems verification processes.

  15. Would be nice when moving from Xero to Xero HQ and Xero Central to have it retain your login so you do not have to login to each site separately.

Thanks for sharing your interest in single sign on across Xero's products. This is available currently across many areas or Xero. For example if you are logged in and working in Xero, then move across to Xero Central(our support hub) you may need to click the login button in the top right of the screen but if you're session hasn't ended you should find the page should refresh and automatically log you in.

We appreciate wanting a smoother login experience that's recognised across all Xero products and will share if there are any improvements planned around this with you all, here.

  16. Its a small change but something that bugs me as i do it at least once, sometimes twice, a day.

Currently the "trust this device" check box is below the login button. If logging in solely on a keyboard you have to enter 2fa code, tab twice and hit the space bar to check the trust this device box then shift tab to go back up to the login button. So the keystrokes are enter 2fa, tab, tab, space, shift tab, enter

If the check box was between the password and login button then it would be, enter 2fa code,…

Hi Shane, we're grateful for your engagement and for sharing this idea to improve the login experience.

We've reviewed your suggestion to move the 'Trust this device' option, and it can now gain support from other community members.

Along with votes, others can now comment to share additional detail about how this change could improve their daily workflow in Xero.

  17. My firm works with additional bookkeepers, and we do not want to have their business or personal emails displayed in our clients files.

Ideally, they would be behind the scenes and would just show our practice as connected.

Next best would be showing first name or first and last name, but no email address.

We can assign them an email address from our firm for a more professional appearance, but often their certifications follow their own business/personal email addresses.

Appreciate why you'd like to be able to group some users that are logging into client organisations to perform admin under a single login, however from an audit pov would also need to make sure that actions could be traced back to the individual user.

Being upfront this isn't something we have plans for atm.

It would be good to get a wider interest through this idea, so make sure to share this with others colleagues that would find this useful.

  18. you should be able to confirm your account with a secondary email. I got locked out of my primary email, and Xero thought my normal log in was suspicious. I had not way to confirm my account. I have a secondary email. What is the point of the secondary email if there is no way to use it to confirm my account? Or use my phone for a text confirmation.

  19. Set the demo company as the first company seen on log-in, or be able to set which one you want to see.

I often use my laptop when speaking with clients and for a split second after logging-in I am on another clients business dashboard until I can grab the mouse and change it to their business. I don't think this is good business practice.

Thanks for your recent comments, and for continuing to support this idea, everyone. We appreciate the passion here, and I’m sorry it’s taken a while to return with another update.

Since our last post, we’ve made progress with passkey authentication through mobile access. Looking ahead, we also intend to explore desktop passkeys later this year.

When this work does get picked up, Yubikey passkeys will be considered, however we can’t confirm at this stage whether they’ll definitely be included. As soon as we have more concrete news to share, we’ll update you on this thread.
