  1. Xero app to have accounting basis (profit and loss) able to change from only accrual to cash
    You can only see accrual, it is one of the main features of the app for live information, I find it very hard to know how my current month is actually doing unless.

    Hey community,👋 thanks for supporting this idea, I’m popping in to switch it across to delivered! The product team have been releasing this in phases and it’s now available for 100% of users 🎉
    First, make sure your app is updated. To change the accounting basis, go to the Profit and loss screen, and on the upper right corner tap Options (iOS) or the 3 dots (Android) to go to ‘Set reporting preferences’.
    I also just wanted to confirm that this functionality was already available on the web version check out our article about how to Select settings in a report.  Note that updating this new setting in the mobile app will not change the setting for the web version.

  2. sometimes i get a bit gung ho on bank rec after its learnt.

    particularly when teh bank feed has an inv number but as i click rec, i notice the transaction has an old number on it.

    id like to see an "undo previous" button

    With no further activity fro my last update we will shift this idea to delivered. 

    As previously noted - There are a few ways you can undo a reconciliation already. 🙂 

    The Account Transactions tab will show you both reconciled and unreconciled transactions for a bank account. From here you can select 'the transaction where you'll get an option to Remove & redo.  

    Alternatively, if you're moving swiftly and aren't quite sure of the last transaction you reconciled, you can jump across to History and notes where you have filters to quickly zone in your most recent activity, click to open the transaction where you can Remove & Redo from the 'Options'

  3. Would like to see a way to turn off "Bank" status for an account that is no longer used (changed banks or go new credit card etc.). While I still need the account in my records, I don't want to see it coming up in my bank listing all the time.

    Hey Anna, if you'd like to remove a bank account from the bank screen, whilst keeping the account transactions, you can 'archive' the bank account. 


    To do that:


    1. In the Accounting menu, select Advanced.
    2. Click Chart of accounts.
    3. Select the checkbox next to the bank account you want to archive.
    4. Click Archive.
    5. Click OK.


    This process is reversible😊 and you can restore an archived bank account at any time 

  4. Could we please have an update on Manual Journals, so if you extract the Journal report it would so the narration/ description we add the each line of the journal report.
    Also if we can print PDF a specific journal so it flows well with the above information

    Hi Navisha, our team have been making lots of development with Xero's new reports. 

    Yesterday we released the new Journal report where you'll find you can add both Narration & Description as separate columns in this report. 

    Once set up, you can export the report to PDF, Excel or Google Sheets 😁

  5. I would like to complete a 'proper' bank reconciliation.
    To be able to enter a figure from a bank statement and have xero compare that to the bank figure in xero for the same date. This feature is available in the package with the very annoying tv adverts and in old school sage.

    Our new bank reconciliation reports allow you to manually enter the closing balance of your account for a set date at the top of the report. This then shows in the report as the bank statement ending balance.

  6. Can you please change the default account order of the trial balance to sorted by Account Number as this just makes a ton more sense for accounting. Or give an option to change the user's default ordering. I know you can click on the Account Number column heading to change the order, but I do this 100 times a day.

  7. It would be really useful if the journal report could be filtered on posted date as well as transaction date, currently they can just be filtered by posting date.

    That way you could quickly highlight transactions that were posted in a period, after a certain point like a VAT return submitted or trial balance exported for accounts preparation.

    Thanks for your idea here, Adam. Our reporting team have just release a new version of the Journal report where you'll find this is now possible!

    Along with more detail, you'll find there's the ability to Filter by any column added, including Posted Date 😁

    When we export the management accounts of the companies, the currency is never mentioned which is not convenient.
    It would be great to add the currency on these documents as we have a lot of currencies.

    Hi all, coming back in to confirm that as of today you'll find you can now run the Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Budget Variance reports in currencies the org has been using, and you'll be able to select and see the currency the report is run in at the top in the report settings. 😁

    If there are other specific reports you'd like to see this developed in please do start a new idea in the site here and we can get a feel for the interest in each of these, too. Thanks!

  9. Aged Payables Report
    This new report defaults to todays date, and you cannot create a template that defaults to the end of the current month. I need this report to show the actual invoices owing, as if I use today's date it shows invoices owing that I have already sent to my bank for payment at the end of the month. The old report worked great and defaulted to the month, but it would be great if this was an option for the new report.

    Hey everyone - Just a quick update to let you know we’ve tweaked the default date picker on this report 😊

    Now, if you open the Aged Payables, the date will default to the end of the month, and not today’s date - replicating the behaviour of the old version.

  10. Tracking Category Find & Recode - Please add the ability to do find and recode on tracking categories. Having to manually update tracking categories one by one on each transaction is unreasonable when there are a lot to get through.

    Hi Tara, to offer flexibility users can drag & drop accounts to change the order of where they appear in Financial reports (including within a group) through the Layout editor

    Being open we don't intend to create an auto ordering feature with this option available.

  13. The change of reports from the old version to new new version reports. Could the same features be included. The old version of reports are user friendly and had features such as including budget to linked to the department.
    However, the new version does not have this facility without the change in edit layout. Which is time consuming when Xero is all about reducing time producing reports. I would like these as standard reports so more time is spent on analysis of reports.

    Hey community - just a quick update to let you know that this is now live!

    Earlier this this month we rolled out an update to the Budget Variance reports, allowing you to to add and choose which budget you view when running the new reports.

    You're now able to select budgets from the 'budget picker' drop down pictured in my screenshot.

  14. Balance Sheet - to be able to add a formula to balance sheet lines instead of grouping lines together. Example, I would like to be able to see only the total asset line on the balance sheet rather than seeing the cost line and the depreciation line i.e Computer Cost - Computer dep'n. Currently you can group the lines to then show a total for the grouping, however you still need to have both lines showing on the report. it would be good if we had the option to add a formula to calculate both lines removing the lines we…

    Hi Erin, this is already possible. Within the Edit Layout view, if you select to show Total and click the group heading to only view the group title within the edit layout screen when you save the report you'll see this is reflected when you run the report.

    Hi team, not long since my last update we have now gone live with our new Journal report in Xero. 😁

    Thanks again for your engagement in community, here.  

    As noted earlier, with the new version of this report along with more detail and abilities to sort and filter you'll find 'Description is now a column that can be included and filtered by in this report! 

  16. The new Profit and Loss has lost the functionality to compare by active client column (active within the chosen time period).

    The old layout should not be removed in July 23 - it should stay until Xero reinstate the basic existing functions.

    Xero for our company doesn't even have the option in 'common formats' to compare by client at all. I have read many complaints and some answers suggesting that if you have 60 tracking categories, then the option won't appear in 'common formats'. I don't know if that is the reason as I can't find any answers from Xero…

  17. I have multiple bank accounts in Xero in which I reconcile payments to the same Chart of Account. I would like to be able to run a report which shows me how much logged against a particular Chart of Account came from each bank account. While at the moment it will show you this in the report it will not total it meaning I have to export to excel and add another step.

There should be a high level financial P&L that can be ran that will report total department spend or total department spend vs. total department budget that does not include account level information. This is a report that can be better shared without driving the report into the minutiae of the account level details. I have seen that most ERP software have this type of reporting.

    Hi Alvin, it's possible to create a summarised version of the Profit & Loss yourself through the use of the Layout editor

    In the editor you'll be able to group accounts to show a summarised total rather than the individual account figures. 

    You can then run the profit & Loss to include the relevant columns (Tracking or budgets) as you choose. 

    Once you have the report set up as you please, save as Custom to run and use this report regularly. 

  19. For a company that takes Direct Debits from customers and the receipt appears as one line on the bank statement it would be useful to be able to bulk match the receipt to multiple customers rather than having to manually select every invoice the receipt relates to. You could do this by being able to import invoice payments in the same way you can import invoices into Xero.

  20. We have some suppliers that charge tax (e.g. VAT) and others who do not (e.g. from abroad).

    On the bank rule creation/editing page, it would be useful to be able to specify the default taxation status (i.e. Tax Inclusive, Tax Exclusive, No Tax) for all transactions being processed by that rule.

    This would save having to manually select the correct tax category on every bank rule transaction during reconciliation.

    Hi team, not having any response to our last update we will move this idea to delivered.  To confirm - when using bank rules to create transactions you can specify the tax rate that should be applied to the transaction within step 3 where you allocate line items. 

    For example you can set if the bank rules created from certain suppliers would have VAT rate 20%, zero rated or No VAT.
