Hi everyone, we’ve taken time to review the suggestion to include custom fields for both invoices and contacts, and recognise the value it'd bring in helping users capture more detailed information and avoid manual processes.
However, with other focuses drawing the teams attention such as multiple addresses this idea is not on our current development roadmap.
As we continue to plan future roadmaps, being highly supported this idea will continue to be considered, however we want to be open about it's current position with you all here. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and for your ongoing participation in the Xero community. Any changes to this status will be shared with everyone on this idea.

Thanks for your feedback, Carolyn. Appreciate the different use case and why you may not want information from a singular invoice to update the contact. We'll get an understanding of the demand for this here.
In the meantime, it'd be good to understand if recording as Receive money could help your flow here for cash sales so you don't have to enter contact details?

I have a suggestion for a potential product enhancement that could greatly benefit users who handle one-time clients.
Currently, when creating invoices for one-time clients under a generic contact, such as "Cash Sales," we are unable to use separate email addresses for each invoice. This limitation poses a challenge when we need to send invoices via email to different clients without saving each as a separate contact.
Our clients have expressed the need to save and use distinct email addresses for each invoice created under a generic contact. This feature would allow them to email invoices directly to one-time clients without altering the primary email address in the "Cash Sales" contact.
Would it be possible to consider implementing a feature that allows unique email addresses to be assigned to individual invoices, even when created under a single contact? This enhancement would streamline the invoicing process for one-time clients and enhance user efficiency.

I’m reaching out as a developer working on integrations with Xero via your APIs. We are using Xero to manage invoices and contacts, and for our integration to work seamlessly, we need a custom or invisible field within these records to store a unique identifier.
For invoices we need it in line items.
This field would allow us to link data between Xero and our internal systems without exposing this information to end users. It is essential for our API-driven processes, as it ensures accurate mapping and smooth integration with other platforms.
We believe adding such a feature would enhance Xero's flexibility for developers working on advanced integrations. We would greatly appreciate your consideration of this request.
