Hi community, appreciate the want for more of an update from us on this highly voted idea. Since Kelly’s last message I am pleased to let you know that our product team has done some discovery work in this space. More specifically, exploring the different ways in which the problem could be solved in Xero, alongside understanding the technical challenges. The feedback you’ve shared has been really useful for our product team’s research 🙏

We recognise the importance of needing to know which bills are flagged, so people making payment can review whether a bill should be paid or not, to avoid inadvertent payment. Being able to improve this workflow is important to us and once we have solution concepts, we will be sure to reach out to this community for feedback.

Right now there are no specific time frames available as to when this might be worked on, but…

Thanks for your comments and emphasis on the bills side of things for the idea here. I've made sure this is shared with our team in this space.

Bills is an area we're continuing to develop with building on beautiful and I'll be sure to let you know here if there's any consideration made to change behaviour of this through the bills add and edit flow.

Large Manufacturing concerns do this sort of thing every day. But small businesses like my 3D printing Business will use a stock of raw plastic filament to make parts for resale. The filament is tracked (because it can be used for a custom project), and so are the parts made from it. So there needs to be a way to record the usage of inventory to create other inventory objects. Here is one idea:
Create the concept of a Bundle, consisting of one or more inventory items, the bundle itself an inventory item.
In my case, the bundle would consist of the plastic filament used to create an object for sale, plus the printer time used to make the object. Whenever such a bundled object is sold, then it would transact the relevant usage of the bundles components.

this also has the benefit of leading to simpler customer invoices. Really they do not want to see all the gory details about 50 grams of filament, 10 screws 20 hours of printer time etc. They just want a bill for the object they commissioned.

Just to be clear here., This feature should be made available on the low end xero packages for small businesses, not the high end xero packages.

Absolutely I need this. My raw material consists of plastic filament for 3D printing. It comes in a roll of a given weight and length, it is consumed by each sale by weight (some fraction of a roll). There are "N" rolls of the same type. I buy them by the roll but sell by weight. So, qty is the number of rolls, weight is the amount each roll contains. When one roll is consumed, I move onto the next roll.
