New Profit & Loss report - Show balances of all tracking categories(inc. nil balance)
For the new format of the Profit and loss report, only show the tracking categories that actually have a balance. Therefore do not show with nil balance.
Currently have to adjust the report to remove the relevant columns which is time & $.
The old version did this automatically!

Why was this not added in the first place. Ridiculous. I signed into my other account just to upvote this further.

Please sort this. Showing all lines so when exporting to add Profit and loss to spreadsheets, we can know the layout will be the same and not have to manually split up the numbers according to the layout on the sheet. The fact that someone overlooked this critical feature is absolutely the height of ignorance and simply not caring about the customers use case for profit and loss exporting on a regular basis... I don't want to have to remake my entire spreadsheet everytime I want to update it. Like others, makes me question Xero as my accounting platform for all my companies.

It would be helpful to be able to choose to produce the Profit and Loss account showing zero balances. This has been a feature in other systems I have used and is about the only thing that is missing from Xero.

This original post was posted over 2 years ago and this feature still hasn't been put into place. Why? Not applying these ideas is a good way to get people to change to QBO. This makes a big difference when a client requests it. The time and money spent having to add this in manually adds up.

Showing zero balances in P&L makes a lot of sense when comparing years. It seems very basic and "normal". Could we not have a toggle allowing this to be changed prior to running a report?

I am a new Xero user, adopting this for a growing company I joined in the spring.
What a fundamental and simple feature that I cannot believe is missing in Xero. I need to export data in a consistent format and not including nil balances in reports just seems a strange thing to overlook.
Certainly will influence the decision to continue with this software. -

It would be very helpful to show all accounts in the profit & Loss, even Nil instead of just accounts with transactions and budgets

This feature has been requested for the last 8 years or even longer. It is such a basic feature - every other accounting package offers this. It is also not very difficult to add. After years of requests, we got a response from Xero (about 2 years ago) saying that this feature is being removed from their "to-do" list, so please stop asking. The easiest solution now is to use VBA in excel.

Agreed that we should be able to add option to insert the zero balances in our profit and loss report, so that external viewers can see the accounts where money has not been spent thus far

It should be a basic option to choose to show accounts with a nil balance. So much time is wasted reformatting the reports in Excel.

Please add this feature. It is a critical element in my particular industry and other accounting packages such as MYOB offer this. Zero might be the only software that does not offer it. It takes me quadruple the time to do a profit and loss statement because you don't offer this simple element.
