Payment Service - Add Wise as a card payment provider
It would be ideal to have the option to add Wise as a card payment provider for invoices (instead of Stripe). Wise are now offering cheaper rates than Stripe and this would be a good option for some of our clients who pay our invoices by credit or debit card.
3 votesHey community, thanks for your continued interest in this idea.
From the 4th September, we removed the option to add Pay with Wise to your Xero subscription for new sign ups, and we made the decision to completely remove the feature from 26th February 2024.
Our team is hard at work on an alternative bill payment solution that uses Open banking.

Invoicing - Add a record of the invoice template under invoice History and notes
We should be able to see under each history which invoice template was used to send the invoice. This is a must for audit trail. Thanks Joana
3 votesHi all, appreciate the interest and rationale in wanting to be able to see under each history which invoice template was used to send the invoice.
We are working on improving new invoicing history that'll eventually include when branding of an invoice has changed.
However, we want to be upfront that recording the name of the branding template the invoice has been changed From and To is not something we'll be developing in the near term.

Enable print for Profit and Loss report
We should be able to print the Profit and Loss without having to export to PDF first.
We used to have that ability before the recent changes.1 voteHey Doesjka,
As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we've removed the Print button from our reports.
As you've found, if you need to print a report you can still export to PDF and print. Alternatively, as a workaround our new reports will fit the page when printed directly from the browser.

Building on Beautiful - a good mantra?
The "building on beautiful" Xero philosophy seems at odds with many of the ideas posted on this forum. In my opinion users want functionality - not beauty. My idea is to change Xero's design mantra from building on beautiful, to building on functional. At present this seems lost on software designers that place priority on (inefficient) mouse clicks over scrolls, and limited bank rec screens. Have these software designers ever had to deal with large volumes of financial data/documents? It would seem not - they're simply focussed on making it beautiful.
2 votesThanks for sharing your views and concerns to the way in which we're developing and upgrading across Xero's product, Karen and Paul-John. We appreciate the honesty from our customers, and while we will move the post here to Not planned your feedback has been keenly shared with respective teams internally and held high as we move forward.
Changes we're making provide a more consistent experience that's simpler and easier to navigate. However, it goes beyond being just the visuals - These changes are also to help create the flexibility across Xero to deliver what we know our customers value most. Our approach is to deliver continuous improvement, that consistently adds value to your experience now and into the future.
Ideas shared through the forums here are vast, and broadly range from improvements to current product through to new innovative features. While there maybe smaller ideas that we can adopt into some… -
Deprecate Account Transactions Report for General Ledger Detail
At the moment there are two very similar reports by default. That being the General Ledger Detail and Account Transactions report.
Could you please at some stage remove the Account Transactions report and shift the defaults over to the General Ledger Detail?
For now I can just change the title at the top of the report from the Account Transactions to General Ledger Detail to produce the exact same report minus the Net Movement row.
If the net movement was required the Net column can be added.1 voteHi Jeremy,
While we appreciate there are similarities between the Account Transactions report and the General Ledger Detail, they have different purposes given that we have millions of users with varied needs. The Account transactions report is generally used for digging into one or two account codes. It can be configured and customised in so many ways, and has columns which are not available on the General Ledger Detail such as Contact, Contact Group, as well as all the multi currency columns. It also has 'related account' to show where a transaction has been coded to, which isn't on the General Ledger Detail.
To be open and upfront, we don't plan to deprecate either of these reports because of those differences.

After adding a new location, Square not synching sales from that location
After adding a new location in Square we found that the Sales figures and expenses/tips etc where not being synched into Xero for that location. I raised a query with Xero and Square and neither side had a clue. I found the answer myself when I had to raise a query with Amaka who handle the interface, I did not really know that I had to manage the interface myself as there is no documentation from either side about this. Anway, If you log into Amaka with your Square account you can see that the new location will be there…
1 voteHey Prasopchok, thanks for sharing this suggestion!
As Xero has an open API, anyone can develop integrations for it without providing us with documentation.
If you need a hand getting set up with the Xero / Square integration, I'd check out this guide from Amaka. There's a link at the bottom of their page to reach out to their support team 😊

Lightyear - Import receipts as Spend Money
Lightyear now has receipts but the import in Xero as Invoices. Can we set this up to come in as Spend Money as Hubdoc doesn't have approvals or the ability for the uploader to code without being able to publish.
1 voteHi Caroline, as Lightyear have designed and developed their integration with Xero they're best to approach with questions and ideas for improving the way their data syncs into Xero - They contacts for their support on our App store
Being open this isn't something we'd have plans to develop ourselves. Thanks

Trial balance - Include/exclude opening balances
Can you please add the option to include or exclude opening balances for balance sheet items on the trial balance. It is often necessary to only use current year movements for tax planning, budgeting and other accounting functions.
3 votesAppreciate the thought, Christiaan. With so many different ways customers would like to view, filter and group items in reports our teams are constantly thinking where these features sit best in the framework of reports.
We don't have plans for adding the open and closing balance to the Trial Balance report itself. We'd recommend making use of the option within the new General Ledger reports.

New reports
Recreate the old version reports in the new code, DON'T break reports that aren't broken in the first place.
2 votesHi Mirian, sorry to hear you're not liking the new view of Xero's reports. We want to be upfront that there are no plans to recreate old reports exactly as they were.
All software has a lifecycle, like a car. The older it gets, the more challenging it becomes to maintain it. Even keeping the engine working requires effort, attention and cost. Eventually, you need to replace it with something new.\
If there are specifics in the new reports that you'd like to see improved please have a search to see if an idea has been started that you could support, or you're welcome to start one that others can join in.

Transfer already saved P&L layout from old P&L platform onto the new P&L report with compare tracking categories
Option to utilise already saved P&L layout from old P&L platform onto the upgraded reports platform and able to apply this saved layout onto all different types of P&L reports including compare tracking categories, compare depts etc.
We should not need to edit the layout of each report again just for the new platform when we already got the layout saved the way we needed it to be in the old platform.
2 votesHey Gladys, thanks for sharing this idea! The 'Layout Importer' tool was available during our transition to the new reports, it's since been retired along with the old reports.
If you still need a hand setting up your Profit and Loss report, have a chat with our support team.

Hidden field for invoice in the API
Ability within the API to assign hidden data to an invoice. The additional field can be a string(255) that can accept data in any format (e.g. JSON), or any other format of data an internal system might need.
This would enable other systems linking to xero to pass specific data to and from internal systems and link invoices back using the API.
We currently pass some data using the reference, but this is visible to customers on the invoice so can cause confusion and it not as useful as passing JSON data.
2 votesHi Juliet, appreciate you joining community here. For ideas that relate to Xero's API we have a Developer forum where you can ask for these sort of changes. There are also experts in this field involved in the site there to communicate any change and keep users updated on ideas for connecting to Xero.
We'll remove your idea from the site here, but I encourage you to add this to Xero's Developer Community Feature request site over here.

Hi Claire, appreciate you engaging the community here. Xero has an API that allows interested apps to build and integrate with Xero themselves, however we don't often build and develop integrations ourselves.
You can share the link to our Developer community with mymusicstaff.com and see if this is something they'd consider developing.

Profit & Loss Reports - Change variance column for costs
The variance columns in the current P&L reports don't make sense - increased costs show as positive variances, despite the red arrow. The formula is fine for revenue and profit, but needs to be the other way round for costs. Is it possible to have this, or to add a column with different formulae for different sections?
7 votesHi team, to confirm how the Budget Variance report works currently it'll show;
- Green arrows for favourable amounts
- Red arrows for unfavourable amounts
- Increases in the amount from budget will have an upward arrow
- Decreases in amounts from budget will have a downward arrow
We appreciate your feedback here however being open, there are no plans to change the way this logic is applied in the report, or to extend the arrow colouring across the figures/amounts in the report.

Financial Statements - move copy and edit button
Move "copy and edit" button to top of page for quicker access
14 votesThanks for sharing the idea here, however, we're going to move this idea to not planned as we don't have any plans of moving the placement of the 'Copy and edit' button within a report.
You'll find within all Xero's reports the bottom options bar is frozen, so you can find this option permanently on the page.

choose where an ABA file downloads on my computer
Dear Xero,
Currently, when downloading an ABA file it will save in the Downloads folder by default. And there's currently no feature in Xero that allows us/ users to choose the location of this download.
Are you able to help fix this issue, so the users of Xero are given the opportunity to choose the location, where the ABA file gets saved?
1 voteHey Shamina, download location is handled by your browser settings, so it's not possible for Xero to make this change.
For example, to change the download location on Chrome, you can head to Settings > Download > Location.
From there you'll be able to select a new folder to save your downloads to, or have you browser prompt you for a location each time.

Invoice Detail
No Tradespeople doing work for me provide a breakdown as part of their invoice ie hourly rate, number of hours or materials cost.
One I asked said there wasn't enough room. Another, when requested for this information, sent it in the body of an email.
Why is this happening?1 voteHi Sue, not really an idea as such here - this could be a question you ask in Discussion over in Xero central to understand how other businesses in Trades are working with invoicing.
The current fields of an invoice are listed here - the way you'd like to record hours and materials qty's associated to your work may be good to get advice from your advisor on.
For example, if you have regular services or items that you sell you could set these up as untracked items, and leave indicators int he description field of where you'd like a Tradesperson to write hours worked or Qty of materials used.
Alternatively, they could type the hours in the Qty and Price would be their hourly rate, or qty would be numbers of units of a material and price would be the cost per individual unit.

Bank Feeds - Mapping for Bank Rules
Description against each transaction on the bank item should come through as "PAYEE" and not "Description". Bank Feed coming as "description" makes it difficult for bank rules as you cannot see the full description against each transaction when reconciled and this is sometimes stressful as you have to refer to bank statement all the time for full description.
Why when bank statements are imported, the description against the transaction is put through "PAYEE" and bank rules are much easier to make and the full description comes through.
Why not on a Bank Feed?
2 votesHi Mayuri, the way data is imported into your bank account in Xero is through information provided and mapped by the bank. This isn't something we're able to control on an individual basis.
The only way to control how data is mapped into the fields in Xero would be to stop the bank feed and manually import statements to your org via CSV where you can map columns of your statement file to fields in Xero, however appreciate the efficiency you likely find from have statements automatically import to Xero.

Hey Paul,
Thanks for sharing this one!
Having a quick read, I'd say this is one for our friends over on the API Feedback board.
That's the best place to share feedback and suggestions directly with our API team 😊

Xero Connect
I would like to know if the below three supplier enterprises in South Africa is supported to outomatic import the invoices into Xero. These are big enterprises with a lot of customers and transactions.
Kaap Agri
BKB
OVKAutomated integration will be great.
Regards,
Anneke1 voteXero has an open API which means anyone can develop an integration without providing us documentation or consulting Xero.
Because of this, we don't collect suggestions for new integrations here on Product Ideas. We'd encourage you to reach out to these organisations directly, to chat about developing a Xero integration.

Multiple Accounts receivable and payable accounts
The ability to have more than 1 accounts receivable and accounts payable account. This would provide a separate account for non-trade invoices and bills, also intercompany invoices and bills that are sent to another region or subsidiary for reimbursement. This would make tracking intercompany and eliminations cleaner and easier to track.
2 votesAppreciate why you may like to separate some of the Accounts Payable and Receivable transactions to segment for these type of things.
While we don't have direct plans for enabling posting to these accounts directly we do have help that explains how you can set up multiple accounts in this way.
