Hi community, first off thank you for contributing and detailing why posting manual journals in a foreign currency is of interest to you all.
We appreciate our customers would like to see more capability in accounting for and dealing in foreign currencies across Xero.
In it's current form Manual Journals are a part of Xero that require some upgrade to uplift technology in order to provide capability for ideas like this to be considered. We have intentions of bringing attention to this over the coming year, however getting this done first is necessary before we can even think about adding newer functionality like journaling in another currency to the mix.
To set the expectation here, there is no work planned over 2023 for this feature. We know it's of high interest and when we're in a place to reassess we will share with you here.

I wouldl ike to add to this the following extension of this idea
I have tried the tracking fields and it now means that tracking appears in every transaction, across all source documents even where we do not need it.
Surely there has to be a better way to be able to track payroll, and just payroll by state and not have it infiltrate into every other area of the company reporting.
Xero has all the required fields in it in the payroll records, so it should not require a tracking field, it should be able to be accessed with a specific report created by Xero that accesses these fields and can be generated for payroll tax and workers compensation insurance purposes as well.
This would avoid the need for tracking fields and simplify the payroll reports for just what we need in these two areas.
Not only that it would be far easier for Xero to create the precise Payroll tax and Workers Compensation report, as there must be many clients that need this report.

It is vitallly important that we can give view access to payroll to various people like auditors, directors and other people that need view access, and the ability to run payroll reports.

Hello Team
I support the need for being able to raise journals in a foreign currency, as a file where you have different currencies you need to be able to do year end journals (and other journals during the year) in particular so you have records of what you did last year to ensure the current year can be actioned as required. Also it allows processes and entries to be reflected in appriopriate ways.
The reply post above was for the 2023 year, we are now at the end of the 2024 year and it does not look like this project has progressed at all.
Can we get an update on this and when the inital upgrade may happen.
