Not the app please - some of us are old fashioned and don't use apps for critical work. We need authorisation by the same method we choose to sign in with - not hard, but the IT geeks cannot see it.

As my comment on this has been closed by Xero, I will add here that this is now time urgent for me.
I am overseas for five weeks from September, my client will not be able to pay their superannuation due to the stupid SMS verification system.
When the ATO come calling we will direct them straight to Xero who have actively prevented us from complying with payday super legislation. The big problem with Xero and other online accounting systems is that they are now driven by IT people, not accountants and accounts professionals - therefore they are getting harder and harder to use, less compliant and frnakly a pain in the proverbial.

Hi everyone, we just wanted to provide a quick update on this one as the upcoming payday super changes will be top of everyone's minds.
The current approval step is important for both cash flow management and security and the community has also suggested a few different ideas on how to approach this:
- Setting up multiple auto super authorisers - currently in discovery
- Super Payment Authorisation via Xero Verify - currently gaining support
If either of these ideas reflects what’d work best for you, please add your vote, to help us get a clearer understanding what matters most to our community.
When we’re through the thick of EOY and initial payday super is rolled out, our product team will circle back around to these ideas to review.

Should also offer the same method as we use to access Xero - not difficult but, as usual, the IT driven Xero cannot understand a basic function. They just don't understand how accountants and bookkeepers work.

Hi there. With Payday Super changes coming soon, we know many of you will be thinking about how the new super payment timing will work for your business. It’s something we’re keeping a close eye on too.
While this particular idea isn’t currently on our product team’s roadmap, it’s on our radar and we’re actively monitoring the feedback here.
There are also a couple of related ideas focused on super payment timing that are already in development:
AU Payroll: Superannuation > standardised payment date aligned with PayDay Super - In Development
AU Payroll - Payday super reminders - In Development
If either of these would help, we’d really appreciate you adding your vote.

Hello everyone, appreciate all your feedback here. To be upfront, we don’t have any plans to develop the ability to reconcile clearing, control and non-bank accounts in the near future.
Some of the technology improvements going on across Xero will create more opportunities for us to explore extending some of the more complex functionality from one part of Xero to another. However, we are some way off from this yet.
That being said, there is the Account transaction report that could be handy in providing a view of both sides of a transaction in Xero. You can include the related account as a column in the report - See more in our help article on this.
Alternatively, if you’re using an external system, you could look into the Xero App store.
Appreciate there are also lots of ways others are using Xero’s to fit their needs - If you…

Yes, Leila Rubner-Petersen,
But Quackbooks is terrible in all other respects, so I would rather stick with not being able to reconcile properly in Xero :)
There are other new accounting apackages which allow this - cheaply! An error occurred while saving the comment

Allow reconciliation of accounts.
Standard bookkeeping practice reconciles and removes reconciled items to keep track of account activity.
Xero does not allow reconciliation, except the fake "reconciliation" in the bank feed.
The one major flaw in Xero which prevents me recommending it to small business clients.

Heya team, thanks for all your input here. We hear you, and understand that being able to assign multiple tracking categories to pay items would improve your reporting capabilities, and simplify tracking costs for various projects, locations, or departments.
For now, we’d suggest using manual journals to split and reallocate payroll costs after a pay run. Alternatively as some have shared, you could create specific pay items for each tracking category combination, although we recognise this may not be suitable for all.
While this isn’t in our plans at this stage we understand the rationale here and will consider how tracking works within payroll closely as we continue to develop our roadmap.
If there are any changes or news for tracking in payroll we’ll be sure to update you of this here.

Typical Xero, give you an option which is then useless because you cannot assign a different category to each employee (one who works in category A area and another who works in category B).
Xero - you need to up your game if you want to seriously compete with MYOB in the minds of accounts professionals. -

Hi everyone, we appreciate your feedback about multi-factor authentication, and this has been shared with our teams internally. Security and protecting your data is highly important to us and we want to be upfront that we don't have any plans for removing the requirements for logging into Xero with multi-factor authentication.
That said, we're continuing to improve the experience and offering more ways to verify your identity when logging into Xero.

Xero are frauds in this matter. I use a lot of different accounting software as a professional bookkeeper and BAS agent. Other software either does not use this MFA rubbish, or limits it to either 30 days validity or only when you actually use the ATO reporting function.
It is a complete pain having to put in another code every time. The password is sufficient, or if the password isn't sufficient then why have a password in the first place?
yet another failing of this rather shoddy software.
You get what you pay for unfortunately, except Xero isn't even that cheap any more.An error occurred while saving the comment

Further to this, MYOB doesn't require MFA EVERY time you log in (So Xero are lying when saying it is an ATO requirement). Nor do MYOB have a silly check box "trust this device".
Plus MYOB allow you to properly reconcile EVERY account.
Therefore MYOB remain as the best accounting software available.
Xero really need to do better.
And my bank doesn't require MFA every day I log in, not when doing regular transactions. Plus accounting software isn't a bank. I bet Xero get virtually no attempts to gain access to people's accounting.

Xero!
Why are you not getting it?
SMS is unsafe, unusable for many and so 1990's.
IMMEDIATELY allow users to choose their preferred method - authenticator app, email, your silly app or SMS as they prefer.
This is beyond stupid and critical to action now.
I just had to use an authenticator to post this comment, so we know you can do it.
We are the customer and we are getting very annoyed at your intransigence on this.
