I Agree with Mike Mori. Xero great for new start ups . Not so good for users of established businesses. Accountants love it because like Sage in the old days it is rigid. They can get the standard reports without deviation their staff don't have to think. Users have to work within the business they are in, after over 50 years of working in various industries I can categorically state no 2 businesses are the same. Accounts have to be to a certain format but as the users are the ones doing the work things such as finding themselves on a random unrelated page when using the back button is an irritating, frustrating waste of time. Xero has quite a few such quirks that I find very strange in 2024 when desktop software was more more sophisticated even in 1999 when I was introduced to QuickBooks Desktop. Progress? Hardly.

I agree, having it at the bottom of a long report is irritating

I would be interested in the answer to this too. I and some of my larger clients have moved to QuickBooks Online having originally come to Xero from QB Desktop when it ceased in 2022. QBO are improving hugely, during the last 8 months functionality has increased. I see no such attempt by Xero to accommodate the needs for growing or medium businesses. It's still great for start ups or very small businesses.

I totally agree. I and my clients went to Xero April 2022 because QuickBooks Desktop was ceasing. I'm seeing nothing from Xero to suggest that they are even listening to our issues. QuickBooks Online has got it's act together and there are almost daily improvements, they are listening and also reply to posts in the community. I think Xero having had a decent start thinks their job is done. It isn't, professionals cannot deal with the time wasted with the issues. Please read the attached - it is only a start - it is a list of issues I have found to date. I and 2 of my clients have gone to QuickBooks Online, we really cannot cope with the frustration. My clients remaining with Xero have limited daily processing. Good software for start ups too much time wasted during daily use for established professionals or SMEs.

I agree, it should go back to the screen you were on.

I agree, this is a real time waster. I posted 30 end of June invoices to a customer who had overpaid the previous month. I can't allocate the payment until the customer agrees the June invoices and confirm which invoice to apply the payment to. The result was for every 30 invoices I chose Save and Add Another it popped up and asked me to allocate the "credit". When I clicked on skip it ignored the Another option and went to save and pay instead.
The whole process took twice as long, additional time I can't actually charge my client for. They would argue that I put them on to Xero. So yes this is critical please.

I totally agree. Overpayment is a rare thing in my world. We are having to post advance payments such as monthly standing order payments for accountancy fees and other advance payments neither of which are an overpayment. Accounts means accounting for something in an accountable way. Calling an action incorrectly is not accounting for something it is more likely to be misleading.

There are many occasions when payments are made in advance. Our accountants have instructed one of my clients to post their advance payment as an overpayment until the accounts are filed and the invoice is received. They have been told that they can't claim the VAT until the end of this process. Calling it an overpayment is both technically incorrect and very confusing for them. There should be an option for Overpayment as well as one called Prepayment. Both of these should be applicable to Spend Money as well as Receive Money for customers and suppliers. Both options should show on customer statements as a credit waiting to be allocated.

Now that I and my clients have been using Xero for a year and some have over 15 pages of transactions per month I now consider this is a critical issue. So much time is wasted adding to frustraton for busy users.

Hi team, just having a little play in Projects - while it won't work for Deposit or Project Amount creation, if you're creating an invoice from a Project for Tasks & Expenses you'll be able to hold down 'ctrl' while clicking on this option and should find this opens the Tasks and expenses screen in a separate browser tab.

Totally get this doesn't resolve the idea here, but wanted to share for those it helps 🙂
