Hi everyone, we appreciate all your feedback on how we could evolve roles for customers using Xero. As you can see through the ideas on the platform, there are a wide range of combinations of permissions our customers want to see us build. As user roles impact all areas of the product, there are many considerations we must factor in when assessing how to solve for majority of our customers needs.
We’re beginning to conduct research on the current landscape and how we might approach some of the most predominant needs in roles for our customers. Front footing this, the discovery of this work will be long winded and there will be multiple phases of research and forms of engagement with users that’ll help shape the path ahead in this space.

Perhaps we should create a petition for this and send it directly to Xero because its such a fundamental part of any IT system, especially when handling sensitive business data. Surely they must understand that it will retain customers and attract more if they get this permissions issue sorted! Changing the user interface to make it look nicer isn't going to cut it!!

I contacted support to see if this was something they could help me with because I want to lock down some features for security reasons but they referred me to this thread!! 4 pages of people complaining about the same thing! Not good!
This is a high security issue and needs developing asap to create user roles similar to bank authorisations! -

Hi everyone
We wanted to provide you an update on our progress for this idea as it’s very much something we want to make easier for you all. The feedback you’ve provided so far has been helpful. One of the big problems our Product team identified in this thread and in other customer research is how hard it is for customers to navigate their statement lines to gain a holistic view of the work they need to do and complete their work flows efficiently.
I’m pleased to share that they’re in the early stages of developing a solution that will help to improve this experience by combining a search tool with an increased number of statement lines being returned to the page.

Hello to those who hopefully have notifications on this top-voted idea. I have voted on this, and in return, I am hoping a few of you could vote on another idea, which is to sort out permissions so we can restrict "junior admin" from seeing business sensitive data like salary payments, bank balances, reports etc. At the moment, this is not a feature. Your business may be small now, but as it grows, this is something you will need. This is great news. I think even just a tick box option in the first instance to hide/unhide bank accounts from a specific user regardless of their other permissions (including reconcile, account transactions, & Statement lines) would be a massive step forward. Perhaps further research could be undertaken to drill down further once you implement the main issue.
