Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback here. Being transparent we don't have any work planned for adding a secondary description field in an invoice.
In lieu of this, an option for some could be to use one line as description only - entering the first description for like a work order summary, and then use the next line to enter the finer details of the work order where you'd also enter the qty, price etc.
I appreciate this isn't the ideal solution you're looking for here. We'll continue to track this idea here and share if there's any change.

We appreciate users wanting more flexibility in the data they show on invoices. At present our teams are re-developing some of the base features across Sales with particular focus on new invoicing.
At this time, there are no plans for developing a fields for a PO number in invoicing. Focus is on existing features in invoicing.
It's good to get a renewed understanding of interest here on Product Ideas, and if there's any news we will update on this here.In the meantime, there is a way the custom template can be edited to rename the Reference field as a 'Purchase Order Number' field - see more in the discussion here.

Please add the extra reference field for the sales invoices. We need to be able to include the customers PO and our internal ref (different to inv number).
Been requested for years but please make it happen for the new invoicing. -

Hi everyone, appreciate your continued feedback on new invoicing. As mentioned in my last update we've now added a new Xero Central page for new invoicing.
Along with updates to individual ideas on Xero Product Ideas, this page will become the single source of truth for key feature rollouts including:
- what’s available in new invoicing right now,
- timelines for features and enhancements going live in new invoicing, as well as
- a comparison table between the classic and newer versions of invoicing.
We'll be updating this page regularly.
Relating to some of the more recent feedback there are some existing ideas that may also be of particular interest that you can join, like the ability to see the email the invoice was sent to in the history, or being able to see a timestamp, and reducing clicks and steps.

Does the updated invoice layout include the option to add an extra internal reference field? We already use the existing reference field for customer purchase order number.
I know this change has been requested for years.
I have used the Annual Report in the past to prepare a few entities financials with. So frustrating that this functionality has disappeared. Qualified accountants should be able to use this, that is why I signed up to Xero in the first place. Please add this option back
