Hi community, thanks for all your discussion and votes on this idea. We can see the appetite in being able to project future leave balances in AU Payroll. We understand that you're looking for an easier way to see an employee's accrued leave for a future date, which would make planning for things like company shutdowns and approving leave requests simpler.

Our product team has taken a look at this suggestion, however building this functionality isn't on our foreseeable roadmap. For that reason, we'll be changing the status of this idea to ‘Not in Pipeline’. The idea will remain open for votes, so we can continue to gauge interest when we next review our priorities for payroll.

As some have shared - exporting and combining reports outside of Xero is one way to get the information you need, although we understand its not the solution you'd like here.

    We really…

Current Leave Balances are calculated as at the end of the last pay run. You cannot see what the leave balance is, as of today or as of a future day. This makes it difficult to evaluate whether a leave request should be approved.

You may approve a leave request for 8 months time, which they have the leave balance to cover at the time. But they put in a second leave request for 3 months time, which because of the way Xero reports leave balances, means that the system shows they have plenty of leave available. So you approve it, but meanwhile that future request which has already been approved now means they are in significant negative leave.

For this reason, it be extremely useful to include a graph showing leave accruing over time and dropping when its used. With the leave requests we can see the graph and its impact on leave balances over time. This makes it very easy to decide whether to approve or reject. It would also be a very innovative feature for Xero.

Hi everyone, we really appreciate the sentiment and engagement on the idea of being able to forecast leave balances.

We know this feature could make planning ahead and managing leave approvals much easier, but at this stage it’s not something we’re planning to develop in the near term, so we’ll be moving it to 'Not in pipeline'.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on how this idea trends in the community and will leave it open for voting. If our plans change, we’ll share an update here.

When a staff member requests leave and you can see their current balance is -50 hours and they are asking for 40 hours leave its very confusing. Because by this date they may have accrued another 90 hours. Xero doesn't show this. So I have to manually calculate how many more hours will be accrued between now and the requested date to check whether I can manage the request.

    This is confusing.

I can see an issue if you did implement this feature, and we approve a leave request based upon a forecasted leave balance. Then another leave request is made for a date before the other approved leave request that would impact the balance for the one after. I think in this case there should be a warning stating future leave has been booked again to help with the decision making process.
