Hi everyone, we've got a bit of an update we'd like to share with you all here.
Some of you may have already seen, following the closure of CATO, we’re launching a new simple accounts production & tax solution for small businesses. This'll be available as a paid annual add-on from August 2026.
With this solution you’ll be able to file your micro company accounts and corporation tax returns directly to HMRC from inside Xero, using data from your organisation in one simple flow.
The feature doesn’t replace the more powerful, flexible tools you use with your accountant or bookkeeper. If your advisor files on your behalf, nothing changes.
This solution is for small business owners handling their own corporation tax, this means less time wrestling with separate tools and a simpler, more streamlined way to stay compliant.
If your tax needs get more complicated or you need more support,…

I ran across this issue recently. I didn't want to file accounts but create a set of draft accounts as requested by one of the managers in the company that I work at.
I think I understand why Xero is taking the approach that it is on Xero Tax but it quite annoying. Especially considering that other software providers allow you to as echoed in many of the comments.
Though I think users could technically get around this issue by having someone register as a partner and then enabling Xero Tax. It is not guaranteed and is a unnecessary hurdle created by Xero. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get access to a feature that is already available.
Xero is such good software but there are some choices that the company makes that are just frustrating from a user standpoint. As Malcom comment mentioned Xero will actually put attention to issues where customers complain alot and loudly. I recommend complain as loud as you can on this issue just like Malcolm suggested.
