Hi everyone, I want to assure you your voice is heard here and feedback is being shared back with our product teams.

We understand the desire to get this idea moving along and as mentioned in our last update we know this is an area that more controls and permissions would be most beneficial to our customers.

We’d like to share progress that we’re making for banking permissions - Work to provide more controls of sensitive banking information has started and will initially include the ability to restrict users from seeing sensitive banking information such as; account balances, bank transactions, and financial summaries.

We know this doesn’t relieve all pain points of this idea - It’ll be the first phase, a stepping stone of sorts in the development of per-bank controls.

As development continues we’ll share further updates as soon as they’re available with you all here.

    Thank you for…

How lucky we are as small businesses to be now able to re-arrange the front Xero display screen 🙄 but we can’t stop a staff member, entrusted with say reconciling petty cash, being able to see all bank accounts, Directors dividends, all staff salary payments, saving accounts, pension contributions etc etc. 😳

Like Celia I’m close to looking for another solution.

Who else is running a business but caught having to do mundane accounting tasks to ensure confidentiality is maintained?

Very very poor by Xero. Total lack of understanding of how the roles within a small business work.

Still no progress. Reconcile the petty cash account - free to see the balances, transactions of every account in the business. Including staff pay. Director's pension payments.
No understanding of small businesses shown by XERO.

This is a basic function. Who seriously wants their bank reconciliation admin staff to be able to view every penny the directors pay themselves, the investment accounts, and access to all other staff payments, bonuses etc?

What a weak answer from XERO.

XERO is not fit for purpose for small businesses.

We are handcuffed, as other suppliers have chosen XERO integrations (booking system and a CRM). Stuck with this inadequate product with no desire to listen to customers.

    Employ another developer...

Still nothing on this? I encourage everyone desperate to have limited staff access to accounts and information to continue to comment. The point is to be able, for example, to allow clerical staff to 'reconcile petty cash account', without seeing all their colleagues pay or all the company's bank account balances.

What an embarrassment for a large accounting software to have this 'all or nothing' setting. It is as though we all use just one senior accountant or one trusted staff member for every task.
For small business the consequence is either do it yourself, or divulge all the confidential information to anyone (and everyone) with access to a bank account on xero.

As Tony Sinclair mentions, giving basic positions who carry out minor bank reconciliations access to all confidential data is huge 'no can do' for small businesses. It gives full exposure of the companies finances, exposes everyones salary, pay rates and bonuses, shows Directors pension payments, through to dividends.

How XERO can not correct this is mind boggling and shows how little understanding they have of small businesses.

Hopefully people keep commenting on this point until action is taken.

The result is that as a business owner, operating three companies, I have to do most of the bank reconciliations or risk having staff being exposed to confidential information.

Shame on you XERO for lack of understanding and action.

Such a basic feature imho - why does it continue to be ignored??

Hi community, your ongoing interest in giving users the ability to reconcile without viewing account balances is welcomed.

We understand why this level of bank permission control matters. As recently mentioned in my updates on this idea, while we do have current work for user roles underway there is more complexities to developing permissions within the banking space and this isn't on the immediate roadmap.

As we continue our journey to evolving roles within Xero we'll be sure to share any progress for permissions in bank accounts with you all, here.

Small businesses do not want junior staff to see all the bank accounts and balances. We need staff to be able to carry out a number of tasks but not see the full financial position of a company.

There seems to be no way to 'hide' investment accounts for example from a staff member reconciling an 'at-call-account'.

How hard can it be to hide the account balances - and still allow reconciling?

Really junior level stuff from XERO - very good increasing fees constantly - terrible for small businesses.

Minimum they should implement is a bunch of tick box options on what each staff member can see.
