User Role - Restrict access to individual bank accounts
To have the ability limit some users to access some bank accounts within Xero org.
Purpose: To limit some staff to not be able to see the information about the client’s bank balance.
Hi everyone, I want to assure you your voice is heard here and feedback is being shared back with our product teams.
We understand the desire to get this idea moving along and as mentioned in our last update we know this is an area that more controls and permissions would be most beneficial to our customers.
We’d like to share progress that we’re making for banking permissions - Work to provide more controls of sensitive banking information has started and will initially include the ability to restrict users from seeing sensitive banking information such as; account balances, bank transactions, and financial summaries.
We know this doesn’t relieve all pain points of this idea - It’ll be the first phase, a stepping stone of sorts in the development of per-bank controls.
As development continues we’ll share further updates as soon as they’re available with you all here.
Thank you for your involvement in Product Ideas and support in this idea.

Nothing but crickets from Xero 'support'. But hey, we got a pretty Home Screen to play with 🦗

Xero the last update I can see is from March, I now have a new login screen which I didn't need but this item which I desperately need has still not been addressed, What is the time frame for this? I along with many others would like a actual date. This is basic user access it needs to be addressed. As Michelle Williams said this is a real confidentiality and GDPR problem.

This would be helpful as junior members of staff require access to the main bank account in order to reconcile incoming payments and our credit card deposit accounts but as a result now has access to bank balances for reserve accounts etc. they should not be party to.

Could we please have an update on the timeline for this? Yet another product update and still no movement.
As others have said, this is crazy. For staff to reconcile supplier invoices and run job costing reports, they need a role that gives them full visibility of all payments, including other employees' pay. So although payroll access itself is restricted, they can still see from the bank transactions what each colleague is paid, who has had a bonus, and what dividends the directors take.
That's a real confidentiality and GDPR problem, not a nice-to-have.
Does anyone have a workaround for this, other than buying another piece of software or doing all the reconciling yourself?

Have you got a time schedule when this will be completed?

In line with all the other comments and my original request, this is critical to our and many other businesses. This needs to be resolved as a matter or urgency or we will have to change software.

I’ll send my Claude login details Xero - that might help you resolve a critical issue raised in 2013? 🙄
Or alternatively let’s leave the situation as it is and allow the staff member who reconciles the petty cash to be able to see every other staff member’s salary payments, bonuses, directors’ dividends and company cash balances.
What I enjoy most in my day as a multiple small business owner is finding the lost £3.25 cash receipt for the purchase of staples and entering it in after using the ‘new look’ login page. As empowering a staff member to do this exposes every confidential transaction in the business. Particularly helpful for the said staff member when they ask for a salary increase - armed with every other salary, pension, bonus payment - alongside all the owners and directors payments and the company cash balances.
However, I’m really enjoying the new login colours.
Note to self - in future buy a accounting software package from an accounting software company instead of graphic design business.
Good thing though the fees for three companies from Xero haven’t increased at all since 2013 🙄

Surely this must be close to being implemented??? It has been years since the issue was first raised and is now 6 months on from Xero advising it is in "development".
But the good news is the Login page has just been changed with pretty new pictures............to do exactly the same thing it always has. Great to see Xero has it's priorities straight! -

Would be great to be able to give a user 100% access to only a certain bank account which can be their area of work to reconcile etc but they can't see other balances etc of the organisation.
Great for allowing a beginner or new employee limited access until experience or trust is built. -

Is there any guidance on how far away this feature is? It would be most helpful!

Still struggling with this, one of my staff is setting up Bills Automation but that would mean I would have to give him access to our bank accounts.
This seems such a basic business need, to be able to select what individuals can see.

User control and access levels are crucial for any accounting software and should be non-negotiable and not just on bank account level, but on all levels and functions.
This is an area that Xero is lacking and a big draw-back, as other accounting software has this functionality as a stock standard and is not something Xero competitor need to develop or have a discussion about to gauge if is a requirement or not.
If the dates are correct, the ideas were shared 29-Nov. 2013 and almost 13 years later it is In-Development .......................
Please Xero, make an effort to have a full user access and control functionality part and parcel of Xero ASAP!

Is there an update on this development? What date will this be implemented? As it's need ASAP.

This is a necessity to have implemented asap. Our staff should not be able to see our entire businesses expenses and profit, as well as other staff member salaries (they can see this in the bank transactions).

The user permissions do need to be more granular. We have senior staff who need access to certain reports, but are not approved to see bank accounts or balances. When you select read only for the user it automatically includes the bank accounts and as this information can be confidential, it means we cannot give the correct access needed to those that need it. The bank should be optional on all users and not a default.

The above is critical to us and causing a huge block in the way we run our business. Likewise if it's not resolved we will have to look at other software. We moved from Sage 50 to Xero and it's supposed to have saved time. The permissions to access reports is also a big problem, because the employee chasing overdue monies does not have access to the bank she also can't run reports that would save her a lot of time. Whilst I can access and export/download them to excel she then does not have the links to click through to the customer or invoice. If is effecting our efficiency and at the rate technology is moving I am in no doubt there is other software that would work better....

Seriously how long must we still wait for these options to come in effect?? Last I heard Xero was going to make this available on 01 June??? Really starting to affect our business negatively, and we will have to think about moving to another accounting solution!!!
