Hi team, we want to acknowledge your feedback and the needs you’ve expressed for being able to view the transaction line description in the account transactions report.

While we appreciate not the news you’re hoping for here - we want to be honest with you all that there are no plans at this stage to change the behaviour of this report.

We appreciate there can be some confusion of what is shown as it does differ based on the account and the line’s origin. We have added detail within our Xero Central article, but I’ve also noted below for ease of reference.

    • For accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, and tax account, it shows the contact’s name.
    • For all other accounts, it shows the contact’s name and the item line description.
    • As manual journals don’t have contacts, it shows narration and description.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing how we can make managing contacts in Xero more efficient. We understand the need to keep your contact list clean and uncluttered, and how being able to fully remove unused or duplicate contacts would help simplify things.

At this stage, permanent deletion of contacts isn’t in the pipeline. That said, your feedback has been shared with our product team as part of ongoing conversations around improving contact management.

For now, you could create a “Deletion Contact” in Xero and merge any unwanted contacts into it before archiving. It’s a quick way to clean up without having to archive each one separately and minimise clutter.

We appreciate your input and your continued partnership as we work to improve the experience, and we’ll keep you posted if there are any updates.

Hi Xero, seems like a simple fix, can you look at this, especially where bulk uploads of contacts have been made, where there might have been an error in the uploaded data. This creates a very unclean way to start a file, if archiving is the only way, not a real solution, in this case.

Please look into the ability to delete contacts with no transaction data, as there is no audit issue or need to retain this information, especially for newly created files transitioned from an alternate software, not a great first impression, and massive time commitment to amend or merge clients.
