Hi everyone, we'd like to provide an update as we’ve recently launched the new Manual Journals experience, in which this idea has now been addressed.
From the Manual Journals list, you can toggle the “Show manual journals on a cash basis” setting on or off. This sets the default for all journals you create in that org, and it can also be changed within individual journals.
Updated 24 Sep - This is currently available in US, AU and NZ only, but we’re planning to roll it out to other regions soon. I’ll keep this thread updated as it lands in more places.

Hi team, appreciate this idea is specifically around how you can process Manual Journals within new Xero Workpapers.
Right now the selection of whether to show a journal on cash basis reports is only available when posting Manual journals within an organisation at present.
Our product team are still making improvements within the new Workpapers experience and using feedback from the forums here to inform their roadmap.
This isn't planned at present, but I'll be sure to let you know if there are any plans made around enabling this selection within our new Xero Workpapers solution, here.

Today's update allows you to revise the default settings but hasn't addressed a global setting across all journals? Hasn't the complaint primarily been that someone has picked up a file, found the entire journal history to have been set to appear in cash reports?
Changing the default hasn't really addressed this, once a user picks up on the issue, they would just switch the toggle prior to posting, resolving the 10,000 historical journals is still manual?
