Hi Andrew, thanks for highlighting this idea. We can see how having support for longer account codes would make it easier for businesses with more complex chart of accounts structures, or those migrating from other systems, to retain their existing account numbering.

I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support. If this is something you'd like to see, please continue to vote and share how longer account codes would support your accounting workflow.

Hi team, we’ve been reading through the feedback on manual contact classification, and it’s clear how valuable this’d be for many of you.

In Xero today, contact types are shaped by transaction history. Bills and invoices determine whether a contact appears as a supplier or customer, which works well in many cases but doesn’t cover every workflow, such as where you use spent or received money transactions and contacts stay unclassified.

While not immediately roadmapped, we understand the needs shared through this idea. It’s on our Product team’s radar for future improvement. For the time being, we’ll keep an eye on the growing interest here, and update you as soon as there’s progress.

Totally agree. This needs to be an option we users can manually engage if we would rather not wait for Xero to auto-classify Contacts as Customers or Suppliers.

I have just migrated our Customer and Supplier databases from the horrors of QuickBooks Online (%^!@) to Xero.

As a new Xero user, I have not yet triggered transactions with most of these Customers and Suppliers, so Xero is showing that I have only a few Customers and absolutely no Suppliers.

Yikes! Gave me a heart attack after doing all that work in the Xero templates to import the data. Then I discovered the All option within Contacts. Voilà; they all appeared.

And like other commenters, I too have several Suppliers who are also Customers.

Couldn't agree more with this suggestion! Currently migrating from the horrors of QuickBooks Online (@#!$) over to Xero.

QuickBooks has Categories for products and services. Those Categories allow a business to group items--and even to nest Categories as Sub-Categories. So useful!

We run a livestock farm that has almost 800 meat/honey/egg products. A Product is unique on the basis of its size or format. Products need to be organized by whether it's a pork, chicken, sheep, turkey, honey, or egg product type.

I could run this kind of product classification/granularity in QBO, but there's nothing like this in Xero. See attached screenshots.

Please add product groupings/categories to Xero!! Our business needs this urgently.
