Hey community, we understand an option to import Projects is something everyone that's voted on this idea would find valuable, and that this could speed up your workflow and improve accuracy when managing a high volume of projects or migrating from another system.
While not a solve for all aspects of a project, within the bills side of things we released the ability to upload bills that might reduce the time taken in manually entering data for project related bills, now.
Being open and honest, we don't have any plans for enabling the import of projects to Xero. We know this isn't the update you're hoping for here, but want to give clear expectation so you can make the best decision for your business.

This is an absolute must that the Xero team needs to prioritize...
In my opinion, the Projects module has so much potential with only a few tweaks (being able to bulk assign to a project being the first and foremost), but as of right now it is useless for my building company due to the painstaking amount of time needed to go through each transaction.
By not having this feature, you are essentially making it not viable for any service business model with a large quantity of transactions assigned to a customer. Being required to manually go into each transaction by clicking add details, then also type out each project within the line item is a colossal waste of time when I have 100-200+ COGS txns going out per project. I have instead had to use the tracking category column to essentially bypass projects, but now have a gap in reporting and cannot using the time tracking feature in Xero is clunky without creating a shell project then exporting everything in Excel to make that connection... this software is designed to simplify the process.
Xero Team, PLEASE look into this! This would be game changing for mid-sized builders, contractors, engineers, real estate operators etc. who share the same problem.

Well said, Leah. The projects pain points I have been experiencing in my building company have been an enormous pain point to the point where I am considering biting the bullet and paying the Quickbooks premium after year end. I think I'd save hours each week on being able to bulk assign expenses to a project in their alone.
It's sad how much general need has been expressed yet no progress from the dev team...
Xero, please enable bulk assigning transactions, adding a project number or reference field, and notes field to the pipeline.
