So disappointing that the API does not support updating repeating invoices. And either does the MCP of course. But I found a work around and can now automatically bulk update my hundreds of repeating invoices. I'm using Claude with the Xero (MPC), Zapier (API) and Chrome connectors. Happy Days - I am loving AI :-)

There's no native way to do this in Xero, and the feature request has been sitting with an official "not on roadmap" response for a while now.

The API also doesn't let you edit a repeating invoice in-place — the only way to change the price programmatically is to delete the original and recreate it, which is awkward to do safely.

I built a tool specifically for this: you connect your Xero org, select the repeating invoices you want to adjust, set a percentage or fixed-amount change, preview the diff, and execute. The engine creates the replacement first, verifies it's correct, then deletes the original — so you don't end up in a state where an invoice disappears if something goes wrong mid-run.

One limitation worth knowing: it only works with ACCREC repeating invoices (sales invoices). ACCPAY (bills) can't be recreated via the API.

agreed, I have just had to update over 780 recurring monthly invoices and I am now going to start looking at alternate software, thats a large admin task that with software capabilities these days really is avoidable, come on Xero keep up or expect to lose clients

Too much time wasted on simple things like updating increases in repeating invoices; if you change the item price, it should automatically change in the system.

This is one of the many features that Xero doesn't support but other accounting software does. Having to go into each repeating invoice individually to change a price is absolutely ridiculous, and so is having to export/import into a spreadsheet.
Come on Xero, sort this out please.

Why can I not change the price on the products and services and have that new pricing automatically reflect on all the recurring invoices? Every year prices change and every year I have to waste time going through hundreds of invoices to change the price. What a F^&&ng waste of time. Accounting software is supposed to make life easier and harder.

Simple change - but yet another HUGE hole from Xero.
