Hi everyone, thanks for your contributions to this idea. We appreciate your feedback about the challenges in ensuring all billable costs are recovered, and your desire for an improved experience.

As noted by others in the idea, there are some features that will give some visibility of billable expenses at present.

Understanding the value more visibility of unassigned bills would have for customers, this is something we’ll continue to review in future planning but isn’t in the current roadmap. We'll be sure to update you all if this gets picked up.

So it is "accepted" but "not in the roadmap"? Just as much a kick in the face really.

Both "features" identified are useless to most (based on my understanding of this thread) users - most don't have the "projects" functionality, and outstanding billable expenses are only any use if they are already flagged as billable!!

Come on Xero, stop all the expensive Facebook ads flogging your solution to resellers for the quick profits forcing solutions onto the masses as a "one size fits none" and do something for those of us who just want a little bit of support in managing our small businesses as efficiently as we can, most of whom have been paying out for years for ever decreasing amounts of respect.

I started out with Xero recognising it as a step change for small business, and now find myself resenting being trapped into your big business scam mentality.

Exactly. So this remains a feature that generates significant interest but one that Xero aren't even prepared to roadmap in favour of "big pieces of work" (read, "things you aren't after but we'll charge you more for anyway"!). It would be trivial to add a flag in the transactions page to show ithe client billing status of each line, and only a little less trivial to add a report on expenses by billable category, but the so-called "keen eyes" on this important need haven't resulted in any update in nearly 18 months so I'm not going to hold my breath.

Can't confirm for Canada but I'm UK and definitely not seeing it.

Furthermore I'd be happier if it (also) showed in the Account Transactions page for an account, this is where I work more than the bills view. It is easy to see that each line has or hasn't a file attached, to see it has or hasn't been assigned to a client would be a big help (and I assume little different in implementation to getting it on the billing page too).

Ten years and still waiting - whether or not it is quick and easy to do there is absolutely no sign of Xero caring one jot about fixing such a fundamental flaw.

This is an absolutely fundamental requirement for claiming billable expenses, and working around it is time-consuming (and therefore costly!) and delays invoicing (which for a one-person business doesn't help cashflow).

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback on this idea, community. We appreciate that having to manually select attachments on every invoice can feel a little fiddly. We get that you want a smoother workflow, that saves you time.

As noted by others in the idea, one option for now would be to add standard files, like your terms and conditions, directly to your invoice template. That way, they'll be included automatically when you send out your invoices.

To confirm how this functionality currently works - this is based on the user and driven by the last invoice that was sent. Where you have files attached, and you had selected to include files as an attachment when emailing the invoice, the next invoice you send with file attachments should have this selected by default.

A caveat to this is when you are working in incognito mode, or refresh your browser…
