Hey everyone, thank you for all your feedback. We’re on a long journey to provide more granular access and controls within Xero features that our customers need.
As you may have seen in some of our recent updates across other user roles ideas we’re currently in the process of adding more permissions within Reporting and Inventory. Further to this our research has highlighted Payroll and Banking as areas that more controls are most needed, and are on our agenda as we continue to develop permissions and access to features.
Your feedback here and through direct engagements with our teams have been extremely insightful, and we appreciate all your inputs.
I'll continue to provide updates on the development of roles for features as we progress.

I total agree with this, For me its about having a separation of user levels, one should be for financial administration so invoice raising, reconciling and general accounts function, which is completely different from full access to all the profit and loss, balance sheet and complete financial performance of the company available to company owners/directors. I don't mind about bank account amounts access because that is useful in the role to make sure the amounts are correct but I do take issue with the performance of the company including profit and loss being accessible. I recently did a pay review and for my accounts administrator and because she knew the company was doing well actually quoted that to me for an additional pay rise. I was going to give her one anyway but because of this issue it put me on the backfoot which is poor. Please sort this Xero asap? Thank you.

Hi community, your ongoing interest in giving users the ability to reconcile without viewing account balances is welcomed.
We understand why this level of bank permission control matters. As recently mentioned in my updates on this idea, while we do have current work for user roles underway there is more complexities to developing permissions within the banking space and this isn't on the immediate roadmap.
As we continue our journey to evolving roles within Xero we'll be sure to share any progress for permissions in bank accounts with you all, here.

This would be very useful indeed. Different tiers of access should be given with a basic version for reconciling, invoicing etc then moving up to a more finance director user level where everything else is available. There needs to be a difference between a finance/accounts employee and owner/director of the business. Please can this happen soon Xero team? Thank you!

The function of user roles would be incredibly useful to have. Please could you provide an update on likely timings? I think the last update came on this thread was in April 2024 by Kelly Munro, and she said that it was in the research and testing stage.
