An error occurred while saving the comment John Ewing commentedAny movement on this ?
This is one feature that is really needed.
An error occurred while saving the comment John Ewing commentedthis feature is needed. As many people have pointed out. some people use estimates and not quotes which you cannot change.
It basically does not look very professional. especially coming from professional paid-for accountancy software.
Much like the custom "mail-merge" within custom DOCX files. I think usings "mail-merge" and maybe - dash and _ underscore. You could create much better file names and actually look professional.
Im currently still wasting valuable time renaming the files produced.
«InvoiceTitle»-«InvoiceNumber»-«QuoteTitle»-«InvoiceDate»
That would be a start.
More options and more text options would be even better.

An error occurred while saving the comment John Ewing commentedThis is so simple, I really cannot understand why it's not an option already.
I came across this problem recently while importing over 350 small transactions from a credit card. The transactions fell under 5 rules. But I couldn't set the reference to anything worth using as the description from the credit card had nothing about the purchase. As I fool to myself I spent 2-3 hours editing while reconciling each and every transaction ! mind-numbingly boring and mundane.
Towards the end, I realized I wanted it displayed slightly differently and would have to re-do the whole lot, especially as 1/4 of the transactions had also come across as a bank feed as well as the imported transactions. So had loads of duplicates to go through.
Then decided to try another approach. I ended up "remove and redo" every reconciled transaction. Also deleted every single imported and bank-fed transaction so I was back to square-one.
I then opened my .XLS file in Excel using "find and replace", and tidied up all the descriptions so i could use the description as a reference later.
Imported the edit .XLS file into Xero. Change the rules so I could set the reference from the description and voila!
This only works when importing as you have the ability to change the bank description in Excel.
A little glimmer of hope but still doesn't fix this issue.
Just add a custom box for us to use! so much easier.

An error occurred while saving the comment John Ewing commentedI would also like this feature. The importance of being able to customize the output file name. Although we are using Xero to manage invoices. We manually still send out PDF invoices due to the lack of customization through Xero. We send out invoices in the form
"invoice_company_name__invoice-#_relavent-po-#_description_date"
so that the file name has all the relevant information within its own title. This kind of customization would be a godsend and enable us to stop manually producing and sending out invoices.
This should be fairly easy to edit through the invoice branding theme as well as all other documents.
What does it take for XERO to implement these simple changes? Together with this issue. There are a few things to do with customising that XERO does not seem to care about.
It seems completely daft that XERO is not jumping on these issues to make the whole platform stand out against the rest.
Surely you have someone on your team that is capable of such things ? If not you should.
They would be worth their weight in Gold. Make it easier for us, surely that will make it easier for your in the long term.
