Fixed Assets - Search by Serial Number
It should be possible to search Fixed Assets by serial number using the existing search box.
Otherwise the Fixed Assets registration feature is not that useful, because if you have i.e. 50 of the same asset you have to manually open all 50 assets to find out which one actually matches the SN of the asset you are disposing.
If you can't search based on the serial number, what is even the point of entering it?
Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback and detail of why searching b y serial # would be of use. We understand how this'd be beneficial when you have multiple of the same asset being registered.
At this time, as with a few parts of Xero our product team in the Fixed Assets space are focused on updating some core Fixed Assets technology to provide future capability and a consistent look and feel to what you've begun seeing in other parts of Xero like reports, and invoicing.
We'll keep watching the support for ideas closely and share any updates with you all.

The Xero fixed asset module has a space for recording serial numbers, but does not allow search based on this number, and you cant run a deprecation schedule with this column added.
Suggest
- adding this field to fixed asset search
- adding this field to the columns you can select in the deprecation scheduleWe have gone to the effort of entering serial numbers on our asset records - let us use this info!

This workaround is an interim solution - Go to Accounting, Advanced, Fixed Assets, and Export. This gives you a .CSV which has the Serial Numbers in column "L".
I hope this helps -

Agree that this is extremely important. We have only converted in the last 9 months to Xero depreciation and we haven't been able to use our existing asset number system as the asset numbers as not all assets have a number. So serial number is our only other option. To get around this we have had to keep our old excel schedule as a back up to assist finding items.
Being able to search by asset description would also be useful as we've put our numbering system in here plus who is in possession of each asset. -

Examples of expensive assets where we don't write the asset number directly on the asset because it is either too small or too awkward ... SD cards, fiber optic cable transceivers, dongles, small hand tools, wireless mice, headphones or bluetooth headsets, computer components such as upgrade RAM modules, etc.

Marked critical because otherwise it is very difficult to actually use this feature as it is intended.
