Custom Report - Update-able date column
When building custom reports, currently there is no way to add a Date column that updates to match the date range specified when viewing the report.
This is available on all pre-defined reports, but can not be added as part of a custom report.
There are many cases where it is desirable to build a report template that can be run for different, user-specified, date ranges, without having to edit the report each time.

Hi community, rounding back on the idea here this is now possible. When editing layout to add columns you'll see there's an option to 'Follow report date range' so your custom date columns will automatically update based on the date you run the report for. Thanks

Does Xero actually employ people to actively make our lives harder - I cant believe how poor their reporting has become - why is it so hard to have a "row format" that when you want to create columns you cant apply a logic of "Month -1 , Month -2 etc" if you want to see some history in a certain format.....Looks like I will be looking to finally upgrade to a proper system and off this platform where they seem not to ever implement even one of the suggestions their customers complain about

Please can the P&L be improved to ensure that an old custom P&L which is imported into the new P&L have the same functionality. At the moment I need to go and add an new column under custom layout every time as the new report only includes 3 months.

Now Xero is pushing everyone over to the new reports, they need to get this fixed. Already moved a few of my clients over to QuickBooks because of poor useability in Xero.

Agree with Victoria Skeat.
Quickbooks reports are pretty good.
Xero is unable to produce a basic Month by Month P&L or Balance Sheet, from left to right, for the months in a CURRENT financial year.
See attached- I've chosen 1 July 2022 to 30 April 2023.
Why are the May 2022 and June 2022 columns there? They are not in the current financial year and it doesn't make any sense?

Without this we have to re-write the report each month to update the date range e.g. for YTD reports.
When I was in quickbooks this is part of the standard functionality. -

I have this issue too and have been creating reports that are wrong for many years now as I didn't realise the RH column didn't update with date range update.
My main issue with the Custom PnL from a non accountants view is that I can select 'This financial year' and click update and yet the RH column doesn't update as it's set in the custom settings edit area - to me this doesn't make intuitive sense.
Also having to enter the RH Column heading in the Edit part of custom report is also annoying and non-intuitive - how about make it default update to whatever setting you make it in the Custom Edit for ecample for Year TO Date the heading updates to YTD FY22 if the rest of the report is showing months for FY22 - then you can click a box to overrride the default if you want to.
